IRC Channel
UKVAC has an IRC channel that’s been up and running since UKVAC’s inception back in the 90’s. IRC (Internet Relay Chat) has been around for a long time and it’s used for interactive text based chat. Many users can connect simultaneously to a chat ‘room’ or channel and talk to each other at the same time. You can also send private messages to other individuals. The easiest way to access IRC is using an IRC client program such as mIRC (www.mirc.com) or any of the IRC clients available for iPhone and Android handsets. The UKVAC channel is available on the irc.enterthegame.com irc network. Connect to this and join channel #ukvac and your ready to talk to the vac!
Some useful IRC commands
N.B IRC commands are always prefixed by a /
/nick myname = change your name to myname
/join #ukvac = join irc channel #ukvac
/msg mymate = start a dialog window with user mymate (private person to person chat)
/me is playing asteroids = announce to the room that you are playing asteroids J

Usenet predates the world wide web and is now largely unused. The most useful Usenet newsgroup is rec.games.video.arcade.collecting which can be accessed via a newsgroup browser or by using groups.google.com here. This group is largely quiet now but contains a mine of useful arcade information going back to the late 80’s.
