Your example alpha1 is what I worry about but with a machine sat against a wall crammed into a tight sparce.

I think I'll look for a co2 one taking on board what ben and andre said

I don't leave my cabs on if I'm not in the room with them unless I go and take a quick leak

Scary thought though, especially if you were one screen away from a kill screen....what a bummer!

Yep Oll, and in that situation, had you had a CO2 extinguisher you could have put out the fire and didn't have to fear for further damage on that cab or any others. You might have had one toasted monitor and probably also the (top parts of the) cab itself but no further damage.

Guddler, you are right. Investing 50 UKP is way too much money.

But they have been Banned

Best extinguishers ever, especially on electrical stuff. Indeed banned in Europe because Halon creates a hole in the ozon layer.

Production has stopped many years ago world-wide, but all the old Halon was gathered in Europe and shipped to the US where they don't give a crap about the environment.

Still in use on air-planes and military though.

Common mistake is that people say it's poisones which it is not, in fact you could stay in the room without too much problems (unlike with CO2 !!!)

This used to be used a lot in data-centers and other "computer rooms". Today we install high pressure water mist installations: http://www.firetechnology.nl/en/

Used to have halon in my office which was attached to the server room. We had sirens and 30 second warning before it went off and flooded the two rooms.

Never mind cabs I've seen a PC go up!! I'd popped round my dad's to watch a movie one evening.

Out the corner of my eye I caught sight of the lovely warm yellow glow from the front of the PC, then complete with yellow flames licking up the front from between the panel gaps.

Turns out he'd done a half-ass job of adding a few extra molex connectors.... no fuse blew, nothing just flames.

Also cop this, the PC was still working!! I asked my dad do you want me to shut it down properly first

[edit] I'm not stupid, but we'd had a few vinos and everything seems funny then!
