Flight Sim Setups

Afternoon all,

My dad, a retired airline pilot, is wanting to get into a bit of Flight Sim. Does anyone here have any experience or can suggest the most cost effective way to get it running? It's not something I'm massively up to speed with so any advice would be greatly appreciated. There's obviously the easy option of running it on a Series X (assuming you can get one, but let's pretend you can) but I'm not sure how authentic an experience that gives. If you go down the PC route, does anyone make bespoke FS setups to run it as well as possible without paying for components/features he'll never use? As I say, he wants to use it purely as if it were a simulator so doesn't require any additional functionality. Thanks in advance everyone.

Flight sims are not my thing at all, but I think he's likely to get the best experience going down the VR route and using Microsoft flight sim. It's supposed to be staggeringly realistic.
