Games Room Construction

Hi Guys, I know I've posted my purchases etc as I bought them, but I thought I'd make a topic where you see my full journey and I can then update it as I do stuff. Took a while to do this as the idea of just putting up pics of decorating etc wasn't appealing to me, need some fun stuff in there too lol. So here goes:

So first up is a picture of the room the day I moved in. The flat was owned by a friend of the family who passed away the previous year and the flat had only been set foot in to collect mail, so it was as it was when they lived here, in other words, a dump.
gamesroom_1.0.jpg

So when I moved in, a games room was not in mind in the slightest, I just wanted the place looking nice enough to live in. So I made this my bedroom to start with, nothing exciting here, I just thought I'd start at the beginning lol.
gamesroom_2.0.jpg

So, after living in my flat for a year, I thought I could change my spare room into a pool room after hearing from a friend that he had a slatebed pool table for sale. But after measuring it all out, it seems my spare room was not gonna be big enough, so I changed my spare room into my bedroom and moved the pool table into the bigger room, which is now called 'the game room' in my house.
gamesroom_3.0.jpg

I had a built in cupboard that was hindering the area for playing pool, so I took it down. Much to my dismay I found out the wooden flooring was only done up to a certain point within the cupboard. But I did think I would want to carpet the place so it wasn't a big deal.
gamesroom_4.0.jpg

gamesroom_5.0.jpg

So still making a pool room, but I wanted some cabs in it too, which was proving difficult due to space. But i thought i better decorate first anyway.
gamesroom_8.0.jpg

gamesroom_9.0.jpg

gamesroom_10.0.jpg

i then had my joiner friend level the flooring with ply wood as it was gonna be carpeted anyway.
gamesroom_12.0.jpg

Now some fun stuff, I had to get myself a cab to start the ball rolling. I'm not exactly the richest person so I was waiting on something I wanted and also something cheap, but working. So I got myself a Lethal Enforcers 2 for £80 off the forum. The guns were just generic Happ guns which were in poor condition, but it worked.
gamesroom_6.0.jpg

I had seen the proper guns for sale on ebay for £100 and couldn't justify getting them for that as they were just a luxury to me to have the proper guns. But by chance another seller was selling the guns, spare holsters and a spare pcb. I lost out on the bidding war and was not happy. But i got a message from the seller saying the person had let her down and wondered if I was still interested for my last bid of £40. So i jumped on that and got the proper guns.
gamesroom_13.jpg

i had to get a sparky friend of mine to change the connections on the guns as soeone had changed them to fit on something else, but it wasn't much of a hassle for him and i had them up and running in no time.
gamesroom_15.jpg

Now this is where my game room changed a lot. I saw this ebay ad and just fell in love.
gamesroom_16.jpg

I had it on my watch list, but I mainly wanted to see how much it was gonna go for. Thinking it was gonna be a ridiculous price and lying on my couch hungover while watching tv, i thought I'd put a bid in for it since it hadn't had one yet and i thought I'll be blown out the water in no time anyway so its harmless. Well, it seems that this machine was too big for a lot of people, a couple of bids came in for it, but I had bid £400. And just so you know, I didn't have £400 lol. So when it came down to it, I had won it for £340 and this when I started to stress out somewhat. i had been thinking about getting rid of my pool table because the room just wasn't big enough for it, especially since I wanted more than just a pool table in it. But now, it meant I had to sell the table. At this stage I'd like to mention that as it was a spur of the moment bid, I hadn't measured anything like my door or even looked at the dimensions of the cab. Yes, i am that stupid.

So I managed to sell my pool table quite quickly and gained some funds from overtime at work. The pool table money would basically cover the delivery of it as it was so big it had to be delivered on a pallet, so it wasn't cheap. heres my room looking empty as hell.
gamesroom_17.jpg

So when it finally came, which I had to delay for a couple of weeks for the delivery etc. The easy part was getting the screen & topper in the house.
gamesroom_18.jpg

The hard part was the actual sitdown cab part. I really had no idea how big this thing was. I knew it split in two parts, so I thought the body of it would come off if I unscrewed it all. It would have come off, but underneath is a solid body of wood, almost exactly the same size as the outer body. So there was no chance.
gamesroom_19.jpg

gamesroom_20.jpg

So I really thought i would have to resell it on the forum, i even posted a for sale topic on here. I was really down about it and just thought I had been very stupid and was gonna lose out on both money & sega rally machine to be proud of. But someone on here (can't remember who it was) suggested my window. I jumped off my couch and went to measure my window and it was gonna fit.... by 2cm. I tried to arrange a good few of my friends to help out carrying this thing to the back of my garden and then through a window. This is when you find out who your real friends are lol. I waiting two weeks to get enough people to come and help, during this time, it snowed. i was scared my machine would be ruined. As you can see above I put a tarp over it and at it was still on the pallet so it was off the ground at least. i managed to get it split into two, which wasn't easy, its connects in about three different ways. Then we started to get it moving and took my window out to get it in.
gamesroom_22.jpg

gamesroom_23.jpg

gamesroom_24.jpg

gamesroom_25.jpg

Honestly never lifted something so heavy in my life. I think Jeff Capes would have struggled. But its in and going nowhere ever again lol. Once inside I had to try and connect it all again. I had labelled all my wires beforehand so it was just a case of putting them all back, but there are over 20 wires, so it wasn't fun. The most nervous I've ever been was when I had to turn it all on for the first time, wishing and hoping it would work. But to my relief, it started up first time. (thats not me by the way, its a friend of mine who is actually good at this game)
gamesroom_26.jpg

Next up is a pastime I'm sure you are all familiar with.... moving stuff around. Below I tried to make the best of my space for other cabs, my retro game setup etc by moving the cab around. the below didn't work, my couch was right up against the thing.
gamesroom_27.jpg

But after much moving around like a one man Chuckle brother, I have decided this is the way its gonna be. More pics shortly.
gamesroom_28.jpg

So next up I had to finally decorate the walls with lining paper that I plan to paint soon. I'm thinking a deep blue. Heres my poo 60 year old mum helping me paper, I have no patience for papering, especially my old warped walls, no patterned paper for me or I'd be committed before i finished lol.
gamesroom_29.jpg

gamesroom_30.jpg

So this is basically how it looks just now until I buy paint. But i had to set it up as i had friends round at christmas time. Whats christmas without some arcades playing and a few rounds of goldeneye eh lol.
gamesroom_31.jpg

gamesroom_32.jpg

gamesroom_33.jpg

So I will update this topic as I go from now on. Any suggestions are most welcomed although I do have a plan in my head for everything, it does change quite often when I see something else i want in it lol.

Cheers Guys and hope you enjoyed my wee journey

Really nice post mate.
That Sega Rally DX is great.

I'm glad I'm not the only person on this forum with a Sega Driver in their living space. The 2 in my house are not deluxe models though!
smiley36.gif

I had 3 Sega Drivers in the living room at one point but it looked a bit too crowded so reluctantly I sold one, it looks much better now with 'just' 2, but, I may have to bring another one that's in storage into the house at some point. I basically have no other choice until the garcade is completed.

Look forward to more updates to your arcade journey.

Nice read, just shows what can be done when you set your mind to it. I guess that's the one from pitlochery? Had loads of machines from them over the years inc Atari star wars cockpit, Outrun Deluxe, Sega Daytona twin, Gorf upright, Pacman pinball, 2 x Star Trek pinballs to name a few. Sad they have shut down now

Having cabs in my livingroom ruined my happiness lol. i only had the LF2 and my pachislo in there while decorating and I felt overcrowded lol, but by the time I moved them back to the gameroom I felt like someone had broken in lol.

Good luck with garcade and thanks for your comments

Nice progress! Boy that Sega Deluxe is BIG!

Jealous of the Lethal Enforcers II! I have the original but always wanted the sequel!

Funny thing is, I'm jealous of you as i would love to have the first one lol. Debated buying the pcb and just unhooking it when I fancied shooting people in an airport rather than the old west.

You have no idea how big the sega rally is lol, its like moving a coffin around. But it does move quite easily when its on wooden flooring.

Will keep you in mind if I ever feel the need to sell my LF2, as I have a few machines on my want list and not enough space for them all

Wee update on my ideas for the rest of the room, let me know your thoughts.

I was gonna get white emulsion for the ceiling, but had a change of mind. I'm thinking about getting soundproofing foam squares from ebay and putting that up there. I noticed the other day that even though I have a few things in there already, theres a bit of an echo in the room. I also have an upstairs neighbour who hasn't complained yet, but my gameroom is below his bedroom so I thought the soundproofing would have two uses.

I did think about painting the ceiling a darker colour, but this way I don't have to and it'll be dark and hopefully a better sound, maybe a bit warmer and my neighbour gets to sleep while I play games and bang beers.

Painting resumes this weekend, coat number three

Have you added water to the paint to thin it down some? It'll go on easier, spread further and not be as patchey.

I read somewhere not to water your paint down. Ok so you can see in pic there that I have 2.5l tub of paint, how much water would you put in there?
