Morning all.

Well it's been a long, long time since I posted on here.

Still around though, as busy as ever, with more projects than I have time/space for.

Anyhow, hope you guys are all ok.

One thing I am determined to try and commit some time to this year, is my blog.

So, with some shameless self-promotion, you can find my latest post here..

https://neilsarcadediary.wordpress.com/2022/06/03/dino-king-conversion-part-1/

But please feel free to stick around, read some of the other posts if you've not been before, like/comment/subscribe as you wish.

Thank you all.

Nice blog there Neil, I’ve added a comment

I was just going to add, I also did a Tempest conversion. The game was working and running on original Atari hardware and pretty much finished, however I could not find a suitable yoke to rewind for a 14” CRT, so I didn’t have a vector screen and you could only play it blind

I ended up abandoning it (but have kept all the parts) and the cabinet was used to convert into a Bomb Jack instead.

Look forward to reading your part 2 blog post

Thanks Matt, much appreciated.

So, I thought you could potentially.rewind any crt into a vector? I'm guessing now, maybe not.

Two amazing games there mind, BJ and Tempest.

The ohm readings on the yoke windings need to be within a certain limit. I looked at around a dozen old 14” CRT TV’s and I couldn’t find one that was even close

so basically I abandoned the project at pretty much the last hurdle. I believe yokes that are for 19”/20” inch tubes are more easier to find that are suitable to rewind so I’m toying with the idea of a 19” screen (which is what Barry Shilmover’s vector kit is set up for) in a cabaret Jamma cabinet or similar instead. I know a couple of members here have done rewinds on 14” tubes/yokes so it is possible.

I still need to do a write-up of my Bomb Jack Dino conversion, so I’ll include a piece and a couple of photos of the failed Tempest conversion. The near completed Tempest conversion looked pretty good and even had the smoke coloured screen bezel. It was easy to repurpose the machine into Bomb Jack instead.

Good evening all.

Latest blog has just dropped, for anyone wanting to check out my latest project, where I turn a bright orange Dino King into a sleek, sexy, black Defender.

Hope you enjoy. Please let me know what you think, either on the blog or on here.

Feel free to share on the socials of your choice. (or don't - eat a biscuit instead, much more rewarding)

I'm still deciding what to do with the Dino, I have a panel and the monitor is in great shape so it would make a very nice Jamma cab. However when I look at the dedicated ones such as your own it makes me think long and hard.

Pole position, it's used but working. I'll continue to play it like that until it needs maintenance , the only thing that I find annoying is that I'm missing the 'Prepare to qualify' sound at race start due to a faulty custom (I think) the seller kindly omitted to mention this until the deal was done. Hopefully I can get it repaired one day.

Duuuuude, can’t believe I’ve missed this thread. Great updates Neil and a fascinating read. I know I should get off my arse and see for myself, but any chance of a quick video showing how everything’s laid out in the games room now with most things finished?
