I work in IT. I manage a team of 7 engineers. PC and network support.
I've been with the company 15 years so I have 12 weeks notice and a half decent redundancy package to keep me going.
If I get another job soon, it'll be a nice little cab fund
I was/am in IT as well, tho wasn't managing anyone, was part of the global network team for Sonae in the last 2 years at the place, prior to that I was doing almost all IT excluding databases (pretty much because I hated them, tho I did starttinkering with MySQL alongside learning some PHP )
I had almost 12 years there and got a fairly 'decent' payoff (well, I considered it decent!), but of course it doesn't last all that long with paying bills etc if there isn't a wage coming in to replenish it. I was amazingly restrained when I got mine, pretty much the only 'big' spend was on my FTO (and it was only £800, plus a few hundred for insurance and tax), and that was partly because my old Calibra was on it's last legs as well. Could have gone nuts and bought new bigger TV (which I really was tempted to do...), plus cabs galore. Really hope you get something else soon (I would have been quite happy for contract work for a change of scene and of course better money), at least that way you can enjoy some of a bad situation. Good luck
