[ukvac] gorf cpo
have you got a gorf? if you have i suspect the silk
screen instructions on top of the control panel have
been worn off. i've just bought a cabaret this weekend
and now currently evaluating my options on how to
restore the cp instructions.

i managed to get another cpo this weekend but it is
almost indentical to the one already on the cab.
artwork on from is perfect but lettering on top is
worn off in exactly same position.

does anyone have cpo for gorf cabaret without worn
lettering?

is there anyone else here in similar situation?

current ideas is consult a sign writer regards
possibility of repainting or making vinyl lettering,
or maybe somesort of adhesive transfer lettering (not
100% authentic but might work)

would it be possible to make a stencil?

any other suggestions...

My cabaret control panel is 100% intact if it helps you at all. I'd
rather not start dismantling it, but i suspect that if i just pulled
the panel out that i could probably scan the left hand side easily
enough?

Even with it being kept in a warm room with heating all year round,
the panel is still starting to craze. I really don't think that longer
term there's anything i can really do about it since it could be kept
any better than it is. Seems to just be something about the metal.

Obviously the lack of lettering on most has nothing to do with this,
it's just where they've all had peoples mits on them. I always ensure
that when i'm playing mine i rest my hand on the top of the cab, not
the cp.

LMK if you need it scanning.

I think Archer was talking about making up some overlays that would
stick on top of the metal and then have a claercoat protective finish
applied? Or something along those lines anyway (sorry if i'm wrong).

I didn't pay too much attention since my CP is not in need of work.

TBH, i didn't like the idea of an overlay either, even though i know
it's probably the only viable way to go. That's just me though

metal panel, I guess he'll get round to just after the Outrun map!

feasible solution to me as well. i wonder if these
guys could make something acceptable

With reference to that company, i think the comment that comes up over
and over is "their artwork is better than no artwork", but...

You gotta love a company that can produce a pinball translite (what's
the betting it's NOT glass!) and misspells it!!

Unless you screen print direct on to a new peice of metal then it
won't look right whatever you do, so you basically just need to decide
what will look the best it can if you feel you want to go down that
route...

what if i approached a screen printer directly - would
they be able to do it? even if possible i bet it would
be very expensive solution. then again could be best
looking solution

Anything's possible (well, relatively speaking), the only question,
more or less is normally the price.

If you'd be happy to shell out a couple of £K for a control panel then
you could obviously get a perfect repro )

wait i remember doing some screen printing many years
ago at school

maybe it is something i could do myself myself at
home?

i presume it needs:

1. a silk screen and squeezee thing to apply the paint

2. a stencil
3. paint
4. patience
5. lots of practice before trying it for real on the
cp

hmm...i wonder if signwriter shop could cut me the
vinyl stencils....

think i'll have a work with somebody down my local art
supply shop

I mailed Rav about these last year and he kindly uploaded his version
to http://www.localarcade.com where it's freely available - A quick
public thank you here as I failed to say thanks at the time.

It appears the www.classicarcadegrafix.com is a copy of this version.
A little give away is the missing "I" in the word "Mission" in the
text "To start mission" !

I had planned to create a corrected version myself but haven't got
into Illustrator enough.

If anyone is planning on producing vinyl replicas or better still a
stencil for each colour of the instructions then I'd be very
interested. It'll end up on the cabaret Gorf bought at the (mostly
pinball) auction a year and a bit back that not looking too bad
lately with the exception of the CPO.

I thought the thread started with talk of the caberet cpo...

Anyhow, did you know the working is wrong on the caberet control panel
in regards to how your ship fires... it says something like when you
release the trigger the shot is fired, instead of saying when you press
the trigger again another shot is fired.. can't remember quite right.

I have a Gorf Caberet sitting here if anyone wants to buy it.. mail me
offlist.
