one thing to be careful about if you are regularly getting dehydrated is the threat of kidney stones - I don't want to start a game of 'my pain is worse than your pain' at all, but seriously, you don't want the risk of kidney stones. I had a 9mm one stuck for six weeks in the run up to Christmas and the pain was unbearable - particularly as it is all focussed on between the kidney and testicles. I had 11 hospital visits, more morphine that you can shake a stick at and I still ended up passing out one time. I get two or three a year but this was the worst yet, normally it only lasts 4-5 days before coming out but this was weeks and I don't mind admitting I had a complete breakdown from it, couldn't take the pain any more, when its 24/7 for weeks and weeks you can't function at all.
Didn't want to hijack the thread with tales of my woe, but to anyone reading this - drink more fluids! it seems being properly hydrated can help with loads of issues and if a kidney stone sufferer such as myself is told to drink loads of water everyday to flush the uric acid out of the kidneys and stop it crystallising, then it sounds like it could be a big factor in gout. I have worked with plenty of people who had gout and watching then try to walk about was horrendous - it is kind of like when I broke my knee a couple of years back (my dog ran into me and snapped my left knee off) I realised that a broken arm wouldn't cause any real problems but anything weight bearing is an absolute nightmare because you just have to walk so there is no getting away from it.
Good luck with it, but...
drink more water
