Evening All,
I've just posted about this in another thread, but in the interests of belts and braces, thought I'd leave it here too.
Earlier on today, I finished wiring a trackball panel for my Goliath. It's a bespoke effort. Part of the group buy organised by EddieC, and has turned out very well.
The buttons all work fine. And it's obvious when I 'tab out' into the Groovymame UI that the trackball works too. You can use it like a mouse to move the pointer round the screen. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work in-game. I've loaded up Centipede. I can credit up, start a game, and fire. But can I move the wee can-on? I can-not.
Any ideas as to how to sort it out? Could it be a .ini thing? It's been a very long time since I messed about with those. Not even sure I can remember how to disable to the 'nosave' mode and boot back into Windows :-(
Any tips greatly appreciated!
Cheers!

Yeah. The control set up looks OK. When checking that, I can move the pointer with the trackball. Just not in game. I've now read there are trackball settings that need to be activated in the mame64.ini file. Next job will be trying to remember how to get into that.

Yes you have to change the trackball from keyboard to mouse.

You can do it in the mame.ini file or from mame directly: General Options - Device Options. Then set Trackball and Spinner to "mouse" instead of "keyboard"

Thanks yoganuggy. Took me ages to remember that the mame ini file is actually parked in the mame.config file. Doh! Had to take the SSD out to do it, but now have a busy day of gardening / housework. Fingers crossed for a positive outcome this evening 🤞

OK. So I updated the mame.config file, activating the mouse input, and assigning mouse to various types of control, including trackball.

While doing this, my desktop PC kept moaning that the disk needed to be repaired. In the end, I gave in and did it, which turned out to be less than clever. While it fixed the drive, it also seems to have reset the 15 Khz output to 31 K.

Having plugged the PC into my TV, I can see that it boots straight to attract mode, as it is setup to doz and that the mouse now works in Centipede, which is a bonus.

But I need to get back into Windows to reactivate 15 K mode, so I can transfer the machine back into my cab.

Question is, how do I do that?

I'm sure I've done it before, but I can't remember how 😥

Help!

Was the original install done using the Chunksin method ?
If so theres an option in the Attract mode menu to re-enable 15khz. Press U to see the menu, and select accordingly.

Thanks Tronads. It was indeed set up using the Chunksin method. And I had completely forgotten about the U key menu. I'll give it a whirl and see what happens.
