HANTAREX Polo Monitor help

My Ridge Racer cabinet comes with Hantarex POLO 25" monitor which started to lose the green colour.

One day it just switched off and clicked.

I had a spare chassis for this monitor from years ago, which was un-tested in storage. I cleaned the board up and shotgunned the capacitors on it and tested.

When I tested I got a spark from the Flyback every 1 second.

I'm pretty sure it's the LOPT I need to replace, I double checked all of the cap kit work, but just wanted to hear peoples thoughts.

If you've actually got a spark physically coming from the lopt body then yes it's had it and you need a new one! Otherwise then check the HOT before you do anything else.

Thanks for the reply.

There is a spark coming out of the top of the LOPT, it's near where the cable goes for the anode cap.

Any idea where to get a new LOPT from in the UK? Is the US one the same? Will replace the HOT too.

Any idea on the poly caps replacement that doesn't come with a cap kit? I'm thinking of putting new ones in for those too.

Yeah that's shot then if there's a spark coming out of it. The HR7191 is the one you need, that one that vectrex above has got should do the job. The US one is the same.

As far as poly caps go, they don't really often cause that much in the way of problems on Polo chassis (9000 chassis have poly cap problems where they go out of spec more than any others, although i've had Polostar chassis with poly cap problems mainly due to cold solder joints). I normally buy my poly caps from Cricklewood Electronics but you could try eBay or CPC as well.

Thanks guys, will take your flyback thanks Frank! PM incoming.

I thought about just replacing them anyway as it's a pain in the arse to keep pulling it out the cab.

The other chassis fault is that it's clicking and can smell burning. I didn't look at the chassis to see where from but read that it could be either the power supply or flyback on the chassis too!

I did consider swap testing the parts and testing the other chassis further but I had already buttoned the monitor up in the game to test - Should have used my monitor test rig!

I will put the new part in from Vectrex and then will look at repairing the other chassis later

yeah it twists and pulls out, easiest way to do it is to cut the wire about an inch from the socket and then proceed

Great thanks, And to install the new cable you just push and twist?

Do you know how it makes the firm connection inside?

Edit: Never mind. I twisted and pulled just like you said and got it out.

I did a bit of research and it uses Internal Dog Grabs that hold it in place

Thanks so much.

So the monitor's had a NOS LOPT and has been working great for a couple of weeks.

Today, I did some work on the cab (Just wire in a coin bulb) and had the cab on for about 1hr.

I left the room for about 10 minutes and when I came back in the screen was black and I could here a ticking noise.

Just as a recap, this chassis has had all the caps replaced (in a cap kit) and NOS flyback.

I'm thinking of checking the HOT's and poly caps next (I'm hoping the flyback hasn't blown already).

You want a BU508A, loads of them on eBay. Try to get an original SGS or Philips one (although I have some of the unbranded ones and they seem to be ok so far). I tend to get my poly caps from Cricklewood Electronics but you should be able to find some poly caps on eBay as well.

Edit: You edited your post just as I posted mine!

Thanks, I just ordered a couple of these after pulling out my spare chassis to check the part number.

I don't suppose you have the links to the Poly Caps on Cricklewood Electronics do you or part numbers?

Haha, yeah - I got the original part number from some other thread without checking mine first hand - Then decided to check my HOT to be sure and realised it was completely different

That said if you do have the list of part numbers and or links to the poly caps because I had a hard time finding the parts from the numbers I took down.
