Hi guys,

I'm an arcade game lover from Norfolk, mainly into shmups.
I've been able to get a couple of PCBs over the last year or so; Sky Shark, and a couple of Psikyo games.
My favourite arcade game by far is Ketsui, but I doubt I'll ever be able to own the original pcb (too expensive!); I'm hoping to go up to the Arcade Club in Bury at some point, as I'm sure it'd be awesome to play it on a real cab.
I've also got a "decent" collection of CRTs which I've been accruing over the past couple of years, currently got a 20" monitor set up vertically on my desk for shmups, and it's amazing.
It's the closest I can get to owning a cab at the minute lol

Glad to be here!

Welcome …
Now you are here you should be able to acquire a suitable arcade cabinet either with or without game board/ monitor at a fair price and maybe local to you? as members on the forum offer them for sale quite often as they upgrade or run out of space for fresh ones?

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Are there many guys here from the east of England? I did see @Wahoobies' post from the other day, https://www.ukvac.com/forum/threads/candy-in-north-norfolk.85269/ , I didn't expect someone to have such a nice setup around here!

Have you looked into getting Ketsui as a PGM cart? Of course if you're not fussed about an actual PCB, it's on more modern consoles now too.
I have, got one of those bootleg carts coming soon.
I've heard that they tend to have some dodgy wiring, and I think the problem is in the way that the boards convert 5V to 3.3V for some of the ICs (they use 2 diodes and apparently that overvolts some of the chips, or something).
Since I got the cart from aliexpress, I ordered a couple of mini buck converters with it, so I'm planning on bodging one of those in to hopefully convert the voltages properly.

I have got it on PS4 which is what I normally play on, and while it's great there (with its built-in leaderboard and gadgets and other stuff), surely nothing beats the real deal ;)

Yeah I need to take a look at mine actually, so I'd be interested in how you get on with those convertors - you are spot on with the voltage issue. I have a DDP-DOJ that has lines on the backgrounds just at the start of the stages, by the ends they are fine.
I have the full suite of these, including a Ketsui with the trap mod and a physical toggle switch on the cart which is 'interesting'

Just recieved the cart the other day, seems to work totally fine
I was expecting this one to be a new pcb (like one of these https://www.igspgm.com/pcb/ketsui_conversion_pcbs/index.htm), but it ended up being a conversion, so it doesn't look too dodgy (although there was one EPROM with an uncovered erase window, so had to tape over that).
I did spot the double diode bodge that I was dreading, I've heard that it drops 5V down to 3.6V, but looking at the datasheet of that Macronix chip, it claims it has an input voltage tolerance of ±10%, so it might be "fine"?

Here's some pics of the boards in mine, does your cart look similar?
