Hi there, my name is David and I bought this machine off ebay...... thing is, apart from playing them when I was younger I know NOTHING!

Can anyone identify what sort of cabinet this is?

Its currently playing Phoenix.... What sort of board is this?

I was hoping to get another board to swap into it one day but don't know if its Jamma, PCB or anything...

Sorry for all the questions on my first post.

Hope to get and meet the community soon.

Dave

WOW, That was quick!
It was disgustingly cheap....

Is it hard to rotate the monitor for horizontal gaming?

If the Phoenix game is using an adaptor what type of board is it... ie can I get older boards of that type to play on it as well as jamma....

Does anyone know where I can instructions for the cab its self, the display is slightly off and if I don't lower the volume my girlfriend will kill me. Ive downloading all the instructions for Phoenix.

Once again, THANKS!

Im using the coin box as a way of saving for other boards.... and maybe another cab...... or 2 .......

you machine is jamma standard, that's what the blue plug all the wires are attached to is, the little board with the wire connectors that connects to your phoenix board is what they call a jamma converter or adaptor, it converts the pinout from phoenix standard to jamma standard so your cab can play it

the volume adjustment will be on the game board, look for a knob you can turn, there should be only one

as for the display you have a hantarex mtc 9000 monitor, just download a manual for it, that will explain how to adjust the picture to how you like it

try this

http://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-monitors/Hantarex%20MTC9000%2014in%2016in%2020in%20Manual.pdf

hope this helps

Finally back of holiday so with any luck I'll get the back off today and see about adjusting the volume and display. Need to purchase some new locks from somewhere as well as the previous owner drilled them out.... sacrilege...

Hi Dave, welcome to the community.

Cracking first cab.

As has already been said, your cab's wired for JAMMA and has an adaptor for the Phoenix board (which is not JAMMA).

Here's a pic of where your volume pot should be. turn this gently to adjust the volume (you should be able to use your fingers, if not, a small screwdriver);

Phoenix is a 2-layer board, which means it has 2 PCBs. It looks from your pic that there is nothing to separate the 2 boards. I'd strongly recommend fitting some PCB spacers to create a gap between the boards (in the meantime, a piece of thick cardboard or anti-static bubble wrap will help). If the 2 boards touch, something could short and become damaged. Make sure you switch the cab off before moving the boards in their current condition.

I got a Phoenix board recently and it was in the cab just like yours (no spacers between the boards).

A couple of cheap spacers and feet later (OK, it's as tall as a double decker bus, now, but there's no chance of anything shorting);

I'm pretty sure the adaptor is made specifically for Phoenix, and will only work with that board (somebody may correct me). In which case, when you do get some new boards, just disconnect the adaptor from the JAMMA connector, and leave the adaptor on the Phoenix board when taking the board out. No point removing the adaptor from the board unless you need to.

Thanks for the advice, where did you buy the spacers from? The last thing I want is for my new baby to go BANG!!!!.... I'll end up putting my 2600 inside it and playing Berzerk all day...... which in all fareness would be a day well spent lol

Also, where's the best place to buy locks? I need 3 as all the ones on my cab have been drilled... I really havnt explored where to source parts. Id always wanted a cab an this one just popped up on ebay 15 miles from my house so it was a very quick decision to go an grab it! It makes a great change from drooling while watching Chasing Ghosts and other cool docu's!

Thanks for all the help everyone, its much apreciated, there will be beers on the bar if we ever get together!!

I got the spacers and feet from eBay.

Spacers here.

Feet here.

You'll notice I've used 3 spacers (x4) to separate the boards - you may get away with one spacer (x4) (the ones I've used are quite short, 7mm) - the reason I added some more space was because I was getting interference through the speaker when the boards were in close proximity to one another.

As for locks, they are available on eBay, and aren't too expensive. You may be better posting a wanted on here and other arcade forums, people have loads lying around and they don't tend to cost much.
