Hi I'm Sean from from Essex. Been playing arcade games since the early 80s, days out in summer to Southend and canvey island in addition to rainy weeks away at various holiday camps.

I have a small collection of consoles and games (mostly Nintendo). I'm keen to learn more about the arcade hobby, before hopefully picking up a cab or two. Was looking at the site for a while, impressed by the wealth of knowledge and willingness to help amongst the members, thought it time to say hello.

Found the site through Nintendo arcade (thanks!!)

Thanks for the welcome, glad to hear a few locals are on the forum as well. Don't worry I'm not a towie fan either, but mainly because I'm not slim, young or orange enough to be on it.

I'm from Brentwood and I find that offensive! But sadly true. At least the hen nights and Towie tours bring money into the town.

True, it was said with tongue in cheek and a tinge of envy that I'm too old to still be going Sugar Hut. I've got family in Brentwood and they tell me the bars and hotels are always full at weekends. Also one of the few towns with a good, busy high street. Only thing missing is an arcade

Me too - I sometimes go to the slug and lettuce and feel like I should have more hair product and slightly less grey. But it's nice having a friendly buzz in the bars and restaurants that are right on my doorstep.

I did consider what it would take to open a proper arcade on the high street, but job, family commitments, technical expertise, mortgage and lack of spare cash continue to frustrate my efforts to recreate the Southend arcade glory days of the 80's in Brentwood!

It is a nice place, there never seems to be any trouble in the bars and you can always find good places to eat.

Oh yeh life always finds a way to interfere. The property prices are at a premium in the town, so would need hefty investment. In my limited observation, the guys that have taken the plunge and are doing a great job running pay per visit arcades, seem to have located in industrial estates. Good luck to anybody willing to give it a shot.
