Found this gem the other day, it's a Romantic Comedy about a Gamer in Japan during the late 80's early 90's arcades

If you love fighting games and candy cabs this is for you

Watched the first 6 episodes and it’s GREAT!!! My wife did say to me “have you turned into a 13 year old boy :0)” cheers for the heads up. I would say that it is teenager friendly but not for the little ones.Silvercity2018-12-31 18:16:51

Yeah they're cute little cabs, i did a bit of research a while back and they seem to be pretty much like our chip shop cabs I guess. Loads of local cabinet makers trying to make a few quid around the Invader boom times. I found a blog for a guy who restores them and old cocktail cabs and there's rarely any mention of a manufacturer name but I found a Nintendo made one. They literally do call them "Orange cabinets" over there.

Watched a couple of episodes and agree with the consensus - it's pretty great! Amusing, sweet and more importantly a love letter to Japanese arcades of the 90's. I'm not normally a fan of GCI animation but it works quite well here.

Was a little peeved they used TubroGrafx in the subs instead of PC Engine though, especially since they had a visual joke that only worked with the latter. And it's clearly written on the front of it.

I've not read it but I believe the original manga includes more references to SNK games, but they ran in to legal issues. Shame, seems like really good, free advertising...

I've almost finished watching this now, and have ended up quite enjoying it. But it wasn't easy to get into, and my manga loving kids didn't like it. One issue was the characters. To begin with, the male and female leads both come across as awful. They're self-centred, obsessive and emotionally repressed - unable to communicate their feelings for each other without resorting to crutches, likeviolence! However, once you get your head into that teenage zone, it gets a bitceasier tofollow. There's also a ridiculous amount of retro video games and arcadeinformation presented in a dry, matter of fact kind oOf way. Once again, it seems a bit incongruous until you delve back into the teenage video game fanatic mentality. Then it works quite well. Just not for kids themselves :)

Yeah thanks for the heads up I'm loving it! The only slight negative is the way they repeatedly refer to the PC engine as "TURBOGRAFX 16" as mentioned above (really annoying).

Great series though, it reminded me of just how much passion I had for playing games when I was his age, although I probably wasn't quite as consumed as he is. Although having said that I did do crazy stuff like complete sf2 using only Guiles magic throw and nothing else

It might as well be a Capcom & PC-Engine advert....

I binge-watched all 12 episodes last Wednesday.

Is it just me or did the rest of you that have watched it scan the cabs & games in the backgrounds to check which ones you've owned and then dig out a couple of old PCB's to have a blast?

Hi, i have this orange cabinet. This was made for Taito i think in lates 70 and the beggining of the 80. This model was made for kids and is very small, in the marquee says "Junior video game".

The monitor is a TOEI CRM-13 color monitor and the wiring is propietary. My cabinet has the Galaxian Taito board (unfortunatelly is not working).

In Chile this model was very popular and was imported for a brand named "Delta" usually remove the marquee and put own graphics in the marquee.

Regards!
