I've been running fortnightly high-score challenges over on J+ since October. We began with Juno First after some general chat about what a great game it is. Then the winner gets to choose the next game. We've had some good ones, and a couple slow ones too, but different game styles appeal to different people so different people are involved each time, which is nice for the community. We're currently on Nemesis and it's getting quite busy.
We always stick to the TG rules for the game and it's generally a good crack. People get involved do some friendly trash talking and some guys log some seriously impressive scores. Even getting near the records on TG.
I create the thread outlining the game and the TG rules. Contestants post pics of their screen showing their score, I update the first post daily with the current running order of scores, at the end declare the competition over and the winner picks the next game (except they let me know the next game via PM, so it's a bit of a surprise when the next challenge comes up the following day).
It's good fun for sure and can get people into games they've never played before, which is always a good thing.
It was even suggested today by a new member that we should invite the UKVAC guys over for a friendly competition
. (I laughed it off and swiftly got things back on topic to prevent any nonsense
).
