Hi All, this is going to be a bit of a slow burner, way back in 2017 I purchased a really lovely condition House of the Dead 1 U/R. Here is a picture of it in my grans garage when I got it. It has obviously been cared for extensively and is in lovely condition. When it left the seller (which I think was a member on here or Jamma, it had a sound fault (went mute), but by the time it got to me that fault had gone! Sadly it has a graphically fault sometimes (could be a voltage issue) and the fan in the boardset cage doesn't seem to move (so it has only been switched on a few times with the full intension to get to these issues).

On closer inspection I think the marquee is a printout as the quality looks quite off to me, thanks to muddy I've managed to purchase a NOS replacement from him - which is still in the carboard sleeve he posted it in - that must of been 2 or 3 years ago!

A few weeks ago I purchased the manual for this machine on eBay and was pleased to see it shows some interesting info on the bit that has really bugged me, the missing Display Card (topper).

I remember as a teen surfing eBay in the mid/late 00s and seeing one for £60/£70 and thinking "Why would anyone pay that for a piece of cardboard!" - I now have serious regrets about not realising some 10 years later I'd own the machine!

I've never seen another go up for sale, I intermittently look and haven't spotted one, has anyone got it?

In the mean time with the help of the manual I can scan in the blurry mess of what it looked like:

and add an even blurrier picture (from google) of it on a machine:

The manual thankfully states the dimensions for the Display Card are W:760 L:100 H:395 (mm) part No. 429-0136. It also shows it as just a piece of board, 2 triangle shape pieces and some double sided tape is all that held it together and to the machine - probably explaining why so many have disappeared. I think if I can't find a real one to copy or buy I will end up making my own based on the knowledge I have from the manual and the accurate if 'low res' example shown in the manual can be used as a guide.

Does anyone know what font they used originally for the 'It feeds on your fear'?

The closest I could find was https://www.bertholdtypes.com/font/laudatio-condensed/be/ but it's still not that!
OK that's an eerily close font! I've drawn the ' by hand to match a higher res example of the text and stretched/moved some stuff around to closer match the b/w scan from the manual I have. I'm not a graphics guy just a weekend warrior here, (I know i haven't included the HOTD logo in the corner on this one yet), but does this look roughly right?

I've used a low res copy of the artwork from a HOTD1 flyer i found on KLOV. Whilst the artwork is used in multiple places, there is usually something over the background or part of the face etc. This flyer seems to get me the undamaged version of this image - unless someone has a good/better source? Either way I've found an original flyer on eBay so that should be with me at some point. I have a colour calibrated scanner also so i'm hopeful I can scan this in and get a) a good background image and b) a good copy of the logo to add also. I'll try my best to get a half a$$ed fan attempt ha, but if anyone else is up for the challenge feel free to better my attempt (happy to pass on the scan also).

@Sbdesign Are you set on finding an original or just a nice close attempt? Thanks all for the interest in this so far.

Funnily enough I started throwing something together, I’m fine with a Repo for now, chance of original are slim.
I can sort logo out no problem, I use PS daily, so we good

OK, today my flyer arrived from the US, I've scanned it in at 600dpi, cropped it to size and exported it as a largish PNG to show below. What are peoples thoughts? does the scan pattern need to be removed? HOTD1-Topper.png

I missed this thread, I've just been working on the side art. If you want me to do a direct-to-foam board print of the topper I can do that.
Looks like you got a great level of detail from the flyer, I'd say you just need to bump the red.

Hey, the side art looks like it's coming along nicely! Good catch on bumping up the red, i've just left it neutral like the flyer is, but looking at the blurry picture of the original, my side art and your side art I can see just how much 'redder' the arcade machine artwork was! I've uploaded everything to a onedrive share and sent that to @Sbdesign as he's asked if he could have a go at mocking this up. I'm not a graphics guy and happy for others to join in on this. I would love for you to do a direct to foam board topper and if you're happy with it i'm sure you can add it to your list or repro artwork. I have so much I actually need to chat to you about artwork wise, I really want to team up on all the repro artwork for my super deluxe HOTD2, but I know that's going to be time consuming!

Just a heads up, if you ever need any advice, I'm a self-employed graphic artist/illustrator for twenty plus years and can help out if others are busy or you need another opinion.

I reckon I've set up and printed pretty much everything you can think of except arcade cab artwork which I will be venturing into in the coming months for my own projects.

Hopefully not treading on anybody's toes, I'm pretty chilled although straight talking, just letting you know.

I do love a good critique though 🤣🤣🤣

I got it done, no idea where and never got it printed.
I wasn’t fully happy and wanted to go back to it
Not even sure where the files are now or even which computer
