Problem How does this connector work?

Disclaimer: this is a cassette deck I'm trying to fix.

I'm not a n00b, I've seen countless connectors over the decades, but this one I can't quite figure out. Is it in two parts? Am I supposed to lever the top part of the white plastic up or something? Or just yank the cable? I don't like it.

Is this some sort of leaver or movable part?

Hmm. I don't know. I've seen ones whereby one end is like the hinge on a grand piano's lid, but this isn't like that I don't think.
There are actually two, one 12 pins, one 14. If only I could determine the manufacturer. One helpfully has PUSH in tiny letters on the top.

It occurred to me I could just desolder them, so that's what I did.
