As you all know, I've sold a LOT of boards over the last few months. I was expecting the odd issue here and there but to my surprise there hasn't been any, until last night.....

I sold a board as original and untested.

Put yourself in this position. YOU bought the board. You've had it a few weeks but have only got around to opening it up and examining it. It's not original. You wanted an original.

Now, could you please take the time and write your response in a reply as you would genuinely word it?

I'd be interested to see how different people would word their message to me as the one I got last night truly left me a bit gobsmacked!

Thanks,

Philip

Mine would probably have been...

Hi Phil! I've just around to opening the (insert board here) that you sent me and it's a bootleg not an original. Sorry to be a pain in the @rse but I really need an original so am I OK to send it back to you for a refund? Cheers.

As you said you'd advertised it as original and aren't new to this hobby, I'd probably be pretty annoyed and very direct in wanting a refund including return postage costs.

Depends on the value of the board - eg if it was a Bubble Bobble, I'd be well pissed if it was something common I'd just ask for a refund on return or a partial refund as it was a bootleg.

As above - if it was a noob mistake I'd be more likely to give seller some leeway, but even people in the scene get caught out some times.

No point in either party being rude and objectionable as it gets you nowhere being a knob.

I'd just point out it was a bootleg and was sold as original and please could I return it for a refund & apologise for taking so long to check it.

Just for the record, whatever goes on and with whoever, members are expected to behave like adults and be polite to other members. And that applies as much to PM as it does to anything else.

I remember when I got Guddlers PCBs I checked the Amidar and it was not an original but a conversion.

I told Guddler and he said 'It don't matter at that price'.

Which is what I thought too.

I've still not sent his PCBs lol, but I have just got back from Sharm El Sheikh after a nighmare holiday.

This week I promise Martin!

what ever is said there would be no need to go into a rant as this solves nothing.

first contact with the seller would be similar to what has been said above and then gauge his/her response to the issue.

Something along the lines of...

Hi Phil, just got around to having a look at the pcb you sent me. Looks like it's a a bootleg and not original as described. Do you want me to send you the board back so you can confirm it for yourself and sort out a refund?

Matt.

Dear Sir

It is with great disgust and contemptuousness that I contact you in this manner. you sir are a charlatan, a common fraud, how very dare you practice such quackery on my good self. You have ruined little Timmy's life with this here claimed so-called original board. It is observed, sir, that the logo is not within itself and it is indeed a font of another! thus getting my gander up and my wanton to plant a facer and darken your daylights or even have you cock up ones toes.

If however you feel we are at sixes and sevens then may I suggest providing me with a blunt of 20 guineas and I shall remove you from my black books forthwith.

Good Day Sir!

Mr. Raffles.

My response depends on if I know the seller or not, if it were you Phil, I would msg you with something along the lines of:

Hi Phil,
Got the board but it's not an original? Do you have an original of [insert game name here] that you could sent out and I'll pop this one back to you?
Cheers.
..and if you didn't have an original, then I would say "no worries, can I send it back for a refund? Cheers."

If it's someone I didn't know, then I would just outright ask for a refund.

Hi Dude,
Just got round to opening up the recent PCB purchase, I was a bit shocked though to find it a bootleg, I was not really after one of these, despite the good prices you were offering, can I send it back to you for a refund, or I guess I could just keep it at the a bootleg price reduction, rather than go through the hassle of posting it back and more expense etc.

Cheers.

This is pretty much what I wrote of recent when an original Popeye I bought on Klov turned out to be a bootleg. Was nice and polite and the seller gave me a large part refund to reflect what I had received.

Reminds me I need to track down the PCBs I bought off you and get them sent down this way. I'd forgotten about them. haha

My initial approach if I received something not as described would be to politely point out the mistake and ask the seller where they would like to take it from there.
