Hi, whenever I post a link to an image on dropbox via the forum it fails and has http://www.homeimprovement.com/ inserted infront of it, if I C&P the link it works or post the link on twitter it works.

So http://www.dropbox.com/sh/z6hp9z4b6x6r4r7/3PykkSmbav/20131022_111234.jpg

becomes http://www.homeimprovement.com/www.dropbox.com/sh/z6hp9z4b6x6r4r7/3PykkSmbav/20131022_111234.jpg

Any ideas?

Hi ZedEx, that is indeed weird. I can't come up with anything simple to explain it - can you tell me whether you've run a recent malware scan on your PC?

Also, can you detail the procedure you use for sharing via DB? For example, do you right click and select the Share Dropbox Link, or are you doing this from the DB website? When you create the sharing link can you post it into Notepad or similar beforehand to see whether it's got the homeimprovement.com prefix then?

cheers

I appreciate that, but could you still let me know whether you have run a malware scan, and could you let me know how you generate the DB link please? I need to be able to rule various problems out.

My computer is clean, could you scan the server?

Seriously though it is only here, and the method/s used is the ones provided by DB, I have a cracking coder mate that actually fingered pointed to the forum at fault as he found no issue with the links either.

I just got a call from Microsoft India (routed through their Ukranian Mafia division) and a guy said he'd detected a fault in the TCP/IP randomness generator so I've given him Administrator access to fix it all for us

so I'm sure it'll all be working soon.

Can you try posting another shared link from DB on here please? Hopefully it'll add the weirdness - if so can you then post the same clipboard straight into Notepad to confirm your clipboard contains the correct URL and not the weirdo?

We do have a current issue with a 3xx redirect left over from when we did a big forum upgrade/reskin a while back but I'd expect that to fail in a different way, rather than adding a rewrite just for your links. I'm sorting out access so I can check this and create a test access URL for you to try to see if we can narrow down the stage at which this occurs, plus I'll grep the logs.

cheers

Both were grabbed from a public folder, both obtained differently, and as you can see have diff urls, both still end up at homeimprovements.

They work perfectly for me (ignoring the fact you've not entered the URL quite right in the dialog box). I certainly don't end up anywhere near any home improvements...

On an IPad via Chrome. Guddlers link opened fine, nice :) links ZeDex posted open https//dl.blah.... Which don't open correctly until you put the colon in the URL.. When the link doesn't't work he title of the window the link shows as http://https//dl.blah...smarty2013-10-25 15:52:48

When you add a link, in the forum dialog, if your URL contains http:// or https:// then often you will need to remove it as that is already in the drop down box to the left. I think sometimes it detects it and does it for you but I'm not sure on when or on what browsers / OS etc.

Always best to double check.

Can't be the cause of the "Home Improvements" though i don't think.

Both of those links are broken for me.

Comparing the rendered output and the raw page markup:

How are you adding those links in and what browser? Once you've done a Send Dropbox Link to the clipboard you should just be able to ctrl-v it into the forum textbox.

Sounds like Zedex is spazzing something up to be honest, since what's being described is actually impossible without a broken client, malware infection, screwed up client DNS or significant user error.
