I see a fair few posts on various platforms from people posting about getting 1 of 1s and claiming they are worth thousands, but it seems like a cottage industry to me, almost like NFTs in a way

these companies can just keep creating these 1 of 1 cards and put a big value on them, and people seem to lap it up

is Pokemon to blame for all this?

In a way yes but no. It is digital 'art' that you 'own' and can sell for crypto but in reality it doesn't have much value unless another idiot buys it for more than you paid. NFT = ripoff

I reckon so as I see loads of people trading cards etc but as you say the company can just punt a 'special' card out and people go bonkers. I think it stems from the old baseball card collectors from many moons ago
