I think my Sony LCD is knackered?

Thankfully LCD TV’s are dirt cheap to pick up secondhand.

I’ve got a spare 32” LG which is probably not even worth £20, so would be happy just to give it away to anyone who can make use of it.

Everything is truly built like cr@p now. Current house 15 years and been though three washing machines, about the same kettles, ovens, toasters, microwaves, dishwashers etc. Meanwhile everything the grandparents bought about 40 years ago is still working fine…

I remember a few years ago now, I was up the tidy tip/recycling centre and I noticed a big LCD tv (I don't recall the manufacturer of it) in the tv container when I was putting a couple of broken crts in there. The manufacturing date on the sticker on the back showed it was less than a year old! I couldn't understand why someone didn't get it sorted under warranty but there you are. TV less than a year old and it's gone faulty and got dumped!

That’s crazy, dumping a TV which is less than a year old. As you said it would of had at least a year warranty.

My microwave oven packed up after 22 months. I purchased it online from Next. When I looked into it I realised it actually had a 2 year warranty so I contacted Next Customer service. They delivered a brand new oven the following day and took away the old one at the same time. I’m still shocked that such great customer service still exists!

Got one of those cheap 24" Panasonics in the Kitchen on the wall, they are much better than the Logic it replaced (which lasted about 3 years!)

Still have a Pioneer Plasma 5090 in the Lounge and it looks as good now as it did 18 years ago new, picked it up from Empire direct in Derby for an amazing price, they went bust a few days later. (not because of me!)

Regardless of the warranty, you're covered by Part 1 Chapter 2 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015. Goods must be of satisfactory quality, as described, fit for purpose and last a reasonable length of time.

Yeah, was thinking about that too as it’s been a thing for a while now but I wonder if anyone has really tested it, in court or whatever, say a washing machine breaking after 3 years or whatever…??

This is why I just buy second hand stuff so if it lasts a few years and paid far less than new price i've not lost that much but generally i've not done too bad, panasonic (Vestel) one sometimes won't come out standby or comes on with blank screen, unplug it and back on it's okay, one day i'll look up if it's fault I can fix.
One Panasonic i bought other half for bedroom 37" with 3D, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth etc paid about £140, has the odd spackattack but it's still going and the older LG ones all lasted but 140 or so watts powered on they had to go, 32" Panasonic when checked with power meter was using like 17w on setting I got it on
