Hello all.

What stands out in your mind as an 'iconic' sound effect you'd hear in the background of an arcade? For me it's "DROP IT!" from the attract mode of Robocop. Just seems to always cut through and give me a warm, fuzzy feeling.

Anyone else got any?

All the Atari games from 84-87 ish, had the same sounds for inserting a coin and used some of the same generic sounds on their games, love all that. Also the opening rift for ghosts and goblins, the music when you complete a stage on roadblasters, the speech from Star Wars, the thumping bass from wardner, the speech from the original street fighter. Still quote the original street fighter now when taking the piss with my brother.

Nearly all of those mentioned ie, robocop, shinobi, plus.
“Do mai” I think that is how it sounded, from pocket gal.

Also all of the coin up sounds especially the one generated by a pokey.

Not sure if it counts but Jean Michale Jared oxygen part 4. Think it was used as an attract in a lot of crane machines.

This will seem like an odd one. As my formative arcade years were the early to mid 90’s all the arcades on the seafront were crammed with a coin pusher machine that had the chorus from the song ring my bell on repeat.

So for me its things like scud race, lost world, prop cycle and time crisis attracts with ring my bell playing over the top.
