Is anyone getting duplicate email notifications?

Wasn't sure whether to start a new thread, but I'm having the opposite problem - I rarely get any email notifications. Sometimes I will, but often a thread that I'm watching doesn't notify me of a reply to it, or it can take maybe 24 hours for an email notification of a new PM to arrive.
Any thoughts on a possible solution please?

I've not noticed duplicates, BUT....
Ever since I joined the forum, the notifications come in late.
Occasionally they are on time, but mostly they are randomly late, from within few hours to sometimes arriving weeks later!
I am a member of quite a few forums with the same email address. This forum is the only one this happens to.
I don't bother with notifications any more as they are pointless!

I've just received an email notification of a PM that was sent to me about 48 hours ago ........ is this a new record?
I know this has been done to death but why is this forum also so intermittently slow, as has been the case for some time now? And why are there these ongoing notification hiccups? Isn't it hosted on a PC server? Are hardware and software upgrades perhaps required? Are the speed issues server or network related or just down to some software bugs?
It's a great forum full of many excellent people and it's extremely good of Alpha1 to host it (thank you!), but these ongoing issues are a pain in the proverbials. Sorry to moan, I'm sure it's not easy hosting a forum.

Just had four email notifications at once for one PM ......... still, that's better than none at all or one after 24 hours. 
Edit: I tell a lie, it was five, another appeared about a minute later.

Just had a notification for big10p's post which went up six days ago.
