Jamma differences?

Hi

I recently had this jamma harness delivered but it's not wired the same as my other one (which broke) I'm quite new to this but is it normal to not have pins connected, especially the +5v feed? I understand the colour codes can fluctuate.

Thanks

John

Some of the cheaper looms don't wire all the +5v & GND pins, as they are connected on the board anyway (bad practice), also sometimes -5v will not be connected, also a problem for some game boards that need it.

Thanks Andy

As usual this was the most expensive loom

I'll use the other one that's complete and save this one for parts etc

Send it back and demand a refund - what's the point of a JAMMA loom without all the pins connected?

Where did you buy it so people can avoid them?

Not only is it missing -5, but some boards don't have all the +5s connected, for example some Sega ones - so if you're missing some of the +5 pins they don't work, this is the problem which led to the 'Moonwalker doesn't work!' problem several Egret owners hit. Aside from that, using just one pin is a really fantastic way to make sure you burn out the edge connector on hungry PCBs.

I bet the right hand side grounds are missing too.

Andy.

Then there must be a batch around like this from suppliers. The one I got was from Gremlin Solutions. They have always supplied good stuff to me and I'm sure this is a one-off. One thing to note was it was supplied in a sealed plastic bag which means neither I or the retailer would notice really - unless it's pointed out - and yes, the grounds are missing from the other end. Even the 12V+ is weird compared to the other one I have.

Chinese 99p imports sold at high UK ££'s. Retailer would know if he was any good, most have knowledge of their products.

I think the first thing to do would be to complain to Gremlin and explain that this product isn't up to scratch and see what they can do about it. I'd expect that they'd want to fix the situation as they've always been a pretty good retailer in the past. They should at least make a not that it's not fully connected if they intend to keep stocking these.

What I would like to know is, why put the Pinout underneath the loom with all power/gnd connected and then send out product without

Definitely let them know, I've had some very good service from them in the past, sure they will sort something out as those looms are top price and only half connected so need to go back as even the pic of the pinout doesn't match.

Jamma looms from jammaboards.com come in at $9.95 each, so if you buy 2 and add shipping there isn't much price difference - and they are fully wired.

A lot of jamma looms sold on ebay do not have all grounds wired, or even have -5v installed.

To my mind, thats not a JAMMA loom. but, you try telling the sellers this that are sittign on piles of them.

Why on earth has that seller got a clearly different pinout than the loom hes selling, his photo clearly shows they are not all connected lol

I contacted them and they said they weren't aware of the differences in that particular stock delivery. I didn't request a refund and they didn't offer one. I'll still buy from them in the future - however I think they should at least update the pinout to include 'not connected' on certain pin references

That surprises me as Andy at Gremlin has always been pretty good to me, taking back faulty parts etc, maybe try again?

I don't have a problem with Gremlin at all, as I said, I have another one so the outcome is to my personal satisfaction really.
