Jamma Switcher Advice

Hi Guys,

I'm thinking of adding a Jamma switcher to my Jamma cab - perhaps the 6-1 like the one below.

As I don't have any experience with Jamma switchers, just curious about any thoughts on how well they work or any things to be be aware of...?

Also one of my big concerns is how to keep the boards upright if I use one of these switchers (as I have some older boards that will be super heavy to stand vertically in something like the 6-1).

For example I was thinking of using Jamma extension leads and just lying them flat in the cabinet. But obviously I want to come up with something that keeps the boards well separated and supported...

Anyway, just curious if anyone has used one of these Jamma switchers, and if so, how they arrange the multiple boards in their cab...

I have this one, you really dont want to be standing each pcb up vertically tbh. just not strong enough to handle the weight. I have a jpac in one, viletim adapter in another and put 1 pcb in at a time into another slot. If I was to put more then 1 pcb in, I would do exactly as you have suggested - use jamma extension harnesses and store the boards in another way safely. perhaps using some custom made wood & pcb spacers or feet. Also I'd stay away from the cheap jamma extension harnesses, or at least rewire the power lines with some thicker gauge, as the wire on those is about as thick as a strand of hair!

A word of warning though, one of the slots died about a week after I was using it. So I cant vouch wholeheartedly for the durability, that said the others are working (touch wood). And the remote control is responsive.

f**k me a remote control with a pull out aerial, aint seen one of those since I sold my RC car back in the 80's.

unless each pcb is identical for 5v adjustment i'd steer well clear of a switcher, and the 'big old boards' you mentioned probably aren't.

for example;

The variance in 5v adjustment needed between my st. dragon bootleg and blazeon original PCB is huge. if i set the 5v with st dragon then switched it to blazeon it would probably be up around 6v. conversely the st. dragon wouldn't run if the 5v was set with blazeon.

I can imagine low wattage modern tiddly boards being suited to the thing in the pic, but IMO you're asking for trouble with classics.
