Great pictures. Do you remember the locations? Mikado and HEY are obvious but there are some sweet looking classics there, Afterburner and Outrun and Monaco, where did you find those?

Thank you for posting the photos as I am off to Tokyo in May as long as the zombie virus has abated by then. Main plan is to visit Disneyland as we then only have Shanghai Disneyland left to tick off the list of Disney parks but I am sure I can fit in a quick visit to an arcade.

Do any machines accept Suica or is it all coin based?Evoga2020-01-29 10:16:17

Plenty of machines take Suica in larger chain arcades, pretty much a standard feature in those now, it's the smaller privately owned ones you'll find it in less.

As for the location of those cabs, the Afterburner and Outrun are in Zarigani in Shinsekai, Osaka, the shopping precinct leading up to Tsuutenkaku tower.

That working Monaco GP is in a new Sega arcade that wasn't there when I visited a couple of years prior. Has a few other vintage games in there too! The other Monaco GP wasn't working and was in Kawasaki Warehouse which is now closed sadly.

Ah nice, thanks! I usually try to get to Osaka for a few days when I am in Japan, I always had trouble finding good arcades there though. Most of the Sega arcades I have visited are all much more modern stuff it seems.

Kawasaki Warehouse was one of the best in Japan with a very cool theme, really sad to see it close down.

This is awesome!! Thanks!

I am heading to Tokyo for business in a week or two, I will visit as many of these as possible that I have not seen. Not sure if I will have time to get to Osaka/west Japan this time. I had a bad run of sh*tty arcades last time I was in Osaka, found an arcade with like 50 astro city cabs and all of them running mahjong. The food made up for it

If you like retro game stores this is another good one, it's underground and easy to miss : https://goo.gl/maps/fTFHa9cpRQpPY2zM7

Yes did find that one! They actually had a small arcade board selection too, with cheap CPS2 and Neo carts! Definitely the store to check out for bargains, as opposed to Super Potato which is really just an interesting looking tourist trap these days. The Surugaya in Osaka is good too, bought plenty from there in the past. I'm mostly done on collecting actual video games these days though sadly, prices are beyond insane for the titles I never got round to picking up "cos they were a bit pricey" years ago.

I've seen the arcade scene change in Osaka over the last 10 years from arcades like the Sega/Taito/Namco arcades in Namba having a decent mix of games like fighters, shmups, drivers etc to these days being mostly music games and Gundam Extreme Versus. Zarigani seems to have hoovered up all the old CRT cabs though and they have two locations absolutely rammed with goodies to play. The Nippombashi Taito Station still has a selection of Egret 2s with some nice games in tucked away in a corner upstairs tho!

Tis hard to beat Mikado and Hey though!

A GENTLE BUMP for anyone who might enjoy seeing more pics of arcades.

During these times of uncertainty I've been having a sort through old photos and did a bit of categorizing of stuff. So I've updated my tumblr with pics from 2016, 2013 and 2003. Sadly there's not many from 2003, I was using my first digital camera and I think I only had a 16mb memory card! The Taito Arcade and Shinjuku Sports land from '03 are still there to this day though!

It was the first and only time I've ever played an actual Forgotten Worlds! I never ever saw any over here in any of my local arcades around the time. I'd always assumed it just used an SNK style rotary joystick so seeing the stick and giant spinny button thing was intriguing!

Usually on my Japan trips I enjoy having a good few games of Bubble Bobble but this last time there wasn't a single one in any of the arcades I visited!! I made a sad face..

Found a bunch of PCBs for sale in Akihabara. Expensive but would have liked to bought one home. Some none workers but nothing I wanted.

Searched the rest of town but couldn't find any more.
