Joystick, to repair or replace? That is the question.

Hi all,

I'm after a bit of advice if anybody would like to share their 2p's worth.

Recently picked up this Subelectro ISIS caberet which I'm very happy with. The joystick was a bit on the stiff side but after giving it a quick blast of WD40 which helped a lot, I did learn that was unwise so have now stripped it down to clean.

Now I'm here I'm thinking of replacing the microswitches as they are quite stiff and also noisy(I've never been keen on noisy microswitches). Also this plastic piece which I believe is an actuator? Seems quite worn although it does work.

The one thing I really do like about this stick is the white slider mech you can see in one of my attached pics alters the gate making it extremely easy to alter.

My question is, is it worth getting new micro switches and potentially a new actuator if even I can find one, or would it just be much more sense to geta whole new stick, and if the latter any recommends that keep the retro look but are a joy to use in both 4 and 8 way? I suppose the only issue could be the metal control panel and the holes lining up for a new replacement.

Thanks in advance.

Lee.

That looks like a Mag Stick, can you pull up on the joystick, turn it to change the gate from 8 way to 4 way, with out having to open the control panel. if it is you can probably get spares from ultimarc.com.

While replacement sticks and microswitches are plentiful and usually not high priced ….. I always did and recommended just take the switches off stick and buttons… soak and work them with fingers in warm soapy water to clean… as long as they click nice dry out fully over a radiator or other warmth source for a day or so
Same with fire buttons squeeze the switch prongs together to release the button from its body and spring give it to a good warm water clean it’s gunge that makes them stick and stiff ….. to reassemble you need just stretch spring a little make it more reactive then compress it while button is relocated in its body so the prongs can close together slightly easier to get back in.

It’s amazing how much crap gets down the buttons! Microswitches , according to ‘cherry’ should be good for over a million clicks but the contact blades do pack up and fail now and then

It’s not impossible to manufacture actuator bushes just shape the plastic down depth and diameter with correct hole through centre? If you have a chunk of plastic to suit maybe from another stick maker? I hear 3d printers might be good for that too.
All depends on cost & availability

No, that would be even better. Here you have that white plastic slider lever you can see in one of the photos to slide right to left.
