worthy of a thread in itself perhaps... but without wishing to open a can of worms on myself
of the dead ones you have do any of them power up but fail to focus on the disk? More of a nuisance to check with an LD1000/1 unless you hook them up to an RS232 port as I don't think you can send a play command from the front panel. Last time I did something like that I used ldp.exe although when I search for that now I get a load of old Microsoft bunk.
Anyhow, if they don't focus then I would definitely check the mirrors for dust/dirt before trying anything else. Also, get another ntsc disk (anything) as cheaply as possible for testing to avoid wearing out the game discs, you'll also go mad watching the game footage anyway.

it isn't actually the best guide in some repects, I think the instructions for cleaning the mirrors on a firefox player (after having to glue the magnets back on) were more helpful but I don't have the link to hand.

Utterly gutted, but can't make it anymore, bloody car exhaust knackered, the day before our summer holiday as well....which then didn't happen as we didn't have the car
Holiday is now going to be starting late this week instead once the car is back, which means all long term plans for this weekend go out the window. Gutted as was looking forward to this one, being fairly local and getting to meet some of those I've chatted on here with in person. I am all booked in for the Arcade club event, so hopefully can meet/catch up with you all then.

I'm driving up Ben if you get the train to portslade I can take you all the way!
The monitor is at my work in London, I forgot to bring it home in my rush on my last day before my time off. Can meet up a separate time, I can try and record a piece for the podcast, as my daughter found some kind of voice recording thing on my phone yesterday while she was playing with it, so should be able to gush on about Outrun in to that haha.
