My cabs are in my house in a couple of downstairs rooms and i was wondering if it would be a good idea to leave the back doors off them to aid in cooling and ventilation etc.

Has anyone got an opinion on this, i figure it cant do any harm to have them open to the air as the temperature indoors is pretty constant and there are no humidity issues that i can think of, the only downside that occurs to me is that they may be a little noisier. Or perhaps it is better to keep them shut up as then they are not as likely to feel any of the slight changes in temperature that occur throughout the day in a house, would they reach a kind of stable temperature and humidity that wouldnt change as the door would create a kind of closed environment.

Any opinions either way appreciated, im just trying to cut down the risk of catastrophic failure of all my cabs

i leave mine on,i also have 2 cats that like to have a nosey and climb in the coin doors etc
didnt fancy one getting fried so i leave em on all times

only need them off on long periods like shows/events

otherwise they will be fine

after all they were designed to be used and secure 12hrs a day 7 days a week

I leave mine on. If I've just resto'd a cab the last thing I want is the damn thing getting all dusty again. Those pesky monitors love attracting dust!

I used to leave the back doors off my woodys, especially if having a long gaming sesh. Not sure how much difference it makes, it seems when these things want to go pop, they go pop no matter how well you treat them!

I prefer to have all mine closed up properly.

Now, get this for weird though... Pole Position.... overheats due to 2xAR2's and a board that just loves giving free heat.

When it overheats, the cars disappear so you think cooling by taking door off, yep, works for a bit then probs again.

Enter 2x 120mm fans - obe in back door, one above monitor creating a funnel of air - works again.

But you have to keep it closed up and the fans running and mine's super stable (just jinxed it now haven't I?)

The question for me is, why do so many of them over heat on long sessions these days? they must have been on 12 hours a day nearly BITD.
Just chips and circuits getting old?
