Hey all - looking for some help with a couple of LE light guns I recently bought.

My LE cab came with some happ guns, which work fine, but I got hold of a couple of the original pink and blue original guns, hooked them up and…..nothing. No response from the trigger, no White flash on screen, nothing. Both guns are like this.

Ive checked and double checked the connections, as the guns go from 2 connectors to 1 to connect to the PCB. I’ve traced continuity from the board to the connections inside the guns and that’s all fine, also traded +5v.

inside the guns is pretty minimal, some kind of unit for the gun turning in the handle, then the trigger and then a small pcb with a photo transistor and a couple of caps. I’ve checked the triggger micro switch and that’s working fine.

i did read on other posts that the transistor might need replacing, and that the correct one is a L14G1, however that looks completely different to the one that’s inside the gun. I would have also thought thought that I’d still get something from the trigger at least, but nothing.

Anyone come across this or ideas on where best to troubleshoot?

So that’s where I got thrown. I saw that and the klov article saying it was a IS485E, but then someone was saying that sensor was for a console ( SNES) version of the gun. I’ll try that though regardless :)

So the replacement sensor arrived, I've swapped it and it's no different. Doesn't seem to be any response from the gun when the trigger is pressed, which I'd expect something. I also replaced both the 0.1uf ceramic capacitor and the 10uf electrolytic capacitor and that's not made a difference. I've traced the input from the board to the gun microswitch and that works fine.
I've got some happ guns which work without issue - I don't get it......any other suggestions or has anyone come across this?

Use a meter or logic probe to see which wire changes on the working gun, and then see if same wire changes on non working. Maybe one has common gnd and one doesnt.

If no white flash it must be trigger issue, if doesn't register shots usually still flashes white when trigger pulled doesn't it
That shows gnd is connector to one side of trigger and sensor board, is that the case in the gun?

yea that was my initial thought, but had a MM on the trigger MS and seems ok - will test it again though as I did that when it was opened up - I dunno, maybe something's snagging!

ok so I've done some checking, testing and tried to figure it out but not getting anywhere. Also seen something online that's caused more confusion :)

So in terms of the connections from the guns to the board I've put the below table together:

Board Connector PinsGun Connector (White)Gun Adaptor Plug 1 (Red)Gun Adaptor Plug 2 (White)
Pin 1 - HIT - Yellow (OPT)Pin 1 - HIT - YellowPin 2 - Yellow
Pin 2 - GND - Black (GND)Pin 2 - GND - BlackPin 1 - Black
Pin 3 - TRIGR - White (SW)
Pin 3 - TRIGR - White
Pin 1 - White
Pin 4 - VCC - Red (OPT)Pin 4 - VCC - RedPin 3 - Red
-Pin 2 - Orange (not used)

Testing both the guns for input when trigger pressed (not connected to the machine):

- LE Gun (pink in my pics) - When I use the MM to test continuity between White (TRIGGR) and Red (VCC) it beeps so the trigger and microswitch 'work'
- HAPP Gun (blue in my pics) - When I use the MM to test continuity between White (TRIGGR) and Red (VCC) it DOESNT beep. Opening the Happ gun up I can see that it routes through the HAPP Optic PCB, as opposed to directly with the LE Gun so suspect this may be why as there's no power?

I've been through a lot of other sites trying to find something similar and I can either find people saying 1) there's a fault with the microswitch, 2) there's a fault with the optical sensor, as the screen flashes when the microswitch is pressed or 3) the guns aren't compatible.

I did come across arcadefixit which has lethal enforcers parts listed on their site: https://arcadefixit.com/product-category/konami/lethal-enforcers/

What's interesting is that the light gun optical board shown is completely different to mine: https://arcadefixit.com/product/konami/lethal-enforcers/light-gun-opto-board/

So I'm still not sure what's going on :-/

Couldn't find any decent pics of the LE Guns to compare in case someone has altered them to work on something else, I've got loads of guns from various games but non of the Konami ones unfortunately

It's as frustrating as I had on a PC once that I could not get the front USBs to work no matter what, couldn't explain it at all and this is pretty much as simple but baffling considering only 4 wires involved and so little in the LE Guns

Is the brown wire on trigger switch connected to the black wire going to the sensor pcb and the connector end? looks like the Happs gun you have 2 black wires on trigger switch one side

I would be checking with MM on Gnd and White Trigger as it's not directly connected to Red Vcc, ground is trigger for the sensor
as long as you get continuity from red on game pcb connector right through to red on sensor pcb, same for black and yellow and white to trigger switch and black gnd is connected to sensor pcb and trigger it should work
