Just as well add a button if the loop back connector is missing. I prefer manual degaussing as I think auto degaussing every time it's switched on is overkill. Also rules out a fault in the degauss circuit causing a screen wobble.

Maybe someone has bridged the connections solder side?

I dont think so,the way to check is to put you multimeter probes in the degauss socket,then when you power on the chassis you should get 240v that slowly decreases down to about 30v
