MAME desktop PC controller?

To get a fix while my cabs are locked away, I am thinking of getting a MAME controller to use with my desktop Windows 10 PC.

I asked about this today at Jamma+ and they kindly suggested I get a PS4 or Xbox fight controller. I only need this for one-player but I also would want to play something like Robotron which needs two joysticks. (I guess a trackball is also a possibility).

So, has anyone got any good recommendations for a MAME desktop double-sticked controller etc. that isn't massive or super pricey?

It's pretty neat that they give you many different options on where to place the buttons.

It's totally down to your personal preference, depending on where you like your hands/fingers to fall.
Some people are perfectly happy with buttons in a row or a strict grid, other prefer more arched grid arrangements that fall more naturally under your fingers at rest.

For a generic mame setup, I'd go for one of the two I've marked with arrows (as many buttons as possible, and both work OK with Neo Geo 4 button games as well as 6 button fighters).
You might like the other layouts though
