Wood  Why Wood? Most of the cab is Metal. I quite like doing metal work, don't wanna do it everyday like but when I need to make something I enjoy seeing things come together

Got more plans for these cabs yet to maximise the games I can play in them with the LCD's

lol , I was trying to say that wood cabinets are better than metal as i dont like metal ones ! Did not explain that too well.

Dave.

I did wonder if that was it, Yeah I like my Classic wood jamma and dedicated cabs, were no Metal stuff apart from Deluxe Sega machines in my arcade days lol

For these machines metal makes sense

After sorting some ebay bits, had some lunch I managed to get outside when it had pretty much stopped raining and get more of Bezel done

Time to cut the sides out :(

Ideally I would have liked to make some replacements but it's just too time consuming and expensive, its shame to cut them down but what can you do.
If the monitor didn't have the controls on right side I would have left more speaker grill and wish I had really but too late with one cut already, need to match!

Bottom cut to lower of speaker grill

P1090371.JPG

P1090375.JPG

The top I'm sawing it above mold line and below the upper so I can file it straight

P1090376.JPG

Then Speaker grill at front of the last supports

P1090377.JPG

Once I've got through the first few and I can get the saw in full It's pretty easy, just standard hand saw I've used for all this

Gone at slight angle again from the top of grill in bottom left of photo so I can mark it and file it straight after

P1090382.JPG

Repeat on the other side

P1090383.JPG

Then bit more tricky need to take a bit more out the back of speaker grill to fit monitor width and also so it's level with top/bottom again

P1090387.JPG

P1090389.JPG

Pretty much there but starting to get Dark now, just needs little more filing to get them straight both ways and true up a few corners, next stage then will be filling the gaps with plastic which I'm thinking of putting along the inside edge of the speaker grill too which with make the gap smaller around the monitor and probably look better

Was hoping to get up early this morning to get loads more done, got raging toothache and didn't get much sleep, not that I've got up any earlier most days but least I had excuse today , nice to see some blue sky too, didn't last long but no rain YAY :)

So got cracking. My original plan was to just fix the monitor too that plate with some slotted holes, trouble is you'd need two people to fit it which is not ideal, so then thought well why don't I use it the same way the TV wall brackets designed. These were the brackets which you fix to the TV and it then just hooks on to the wall plate and 2 sliding locks.

These are way too big so it was time to make them, the box section aluminum strikes again :giggle: could get away with 2 but I went with 3 as they are quite heavy LCD

As I already had the 3 I'd made for 1st cab It's just copy again though I picked the 2nd attempt one from the middle which I changed after that cutting out less metal at bottom half, oh well it's still fine

Get it cut down on the Evolution Table Saw, It's done the job for me and I've used it for many things, I would have bought better if I had space to leave setup. its not too heavy to move about, I don't buy many things new but this I did

Cut up in the chop saw which came from the tip :) I did get my dad a Table Saw from there too which he still uses and a nice Band Saw

Nice and quick doing jobs if you have the tools

The speaker brackets on the 1st cab I got from old washing machine I scrapped for parts which was pretty much same as mine so I now have spares to fix it and keep it going a good few years, because the sides aren't all flat I could only get enough for 2 brackets so I need some more metal for the other 2

P1090391.JPG

So question was where can I get some free metal from for the others, hmm I need something similar, seek and he shall find
Was keeping my eyes open over the weekend for something suitable and darn me someone left a lovely Panel Heater outside there house to take, bang on

You'd have to be crazy to use Electric Heater with the Highest Electricity bills in world thanks to Net Zero and Drax Power Station Biomass burning scam (Trees from North America) 600 million pound a year subsidies from Government while apparently producing more C02 over burning Coal but someone is making a mint and subsidies added to our Electric Bill so time to dismantle this for the lovely free metal and see if anything we can weight in scrap :)

Nice .. is that a wood blade cutting the aluminium?

The Table saw came with Multiblade that cuts everything even through nails but it was getting a bit worn and I needed a new blade for cutting the alloy window frames so got some of these, assume the 80T ones, me dad said any TCT will cut alloy and it does fine, these lovely clean cut through wood, plastic which i've cut 6mm and alloy so got one in Chop and Table Saw

Now I have plenty of metal from this heater and have template I can easier make these brackets with the sound guide added. Amazingly its same thickness metal as the original speaker brackets

P1090398.JPG

Also the bottom doesn't need to be as long as fixing hole is right at the top

Got the 2 brackets cut out yesterday, so I don't do same a other times I'm getting the power coat off first, I did mean to do them opposite so powercoat side was on outside for both but still got it wrong, because how they now fit there not universal like originals which work on both left and right, these need to be left and right

P1090406.JPG

Get the heatgun out and scrape off the thick layer as it takes ages to sandblast it otherwise

P1090407.JPG

P1090410.JPG

now time to sort out bending which isn't fun because if you get it wrong it's try flatten it again or start from scratch

Worst thing about bending is you can't do it in the order you'd like, if I bend the sides up first then I can't get it back in to bend the fixing sides out, so to start with the outer bends first

Only issue is, I really needed to start the outer bends a bit further along, it turns out the speaker boxes aren't exactly square :(

Fixed side
P1090429.JPG

Screwed lid side 2mm wider so it fits perfect with tweeter at top one side, other side box don't fit unless fit with tweeter at bottom, oh well won't notice when fitted, must have got lucky on first brackets i did them on the wider side
