Hi Guys,

It's been almost 3 months since I set up Groovymame, and in all that time it's been great. I love the way it saves individual scores and volume settings. I've been hitting it fairly hard these past couple of weeks, trying to brush up my Donkey Kong high score. Had a quick blast this morning, then pulled the plug. This afternoon, on starting up, MAME was fine. But the DK ROM seems to be corrupt! Removing the game from my favourites list then adding it again, didn't make a difference? Anyone know why this might have happened, and if there is an easy fix?

Cheers!

did windows do an auto update on you pc today?
if so roll your machine back ... system restore.
did you down load a fresh rom today?
or was it a direct copy of the rom that corrupted?

If you're just cutting the power without shutting down properly on Windows, you're bound to run into trouble. You need Chunksin's read-only Windows thingummy to do that.

That's what I've got...

Also, the machine isn't connected to the network.

Very mysterious.

MAME itself and all the other games are fine.

When I start Donkey Kong, it looks like everything is going to be OK, but there's a line of garbled symbols at the top and some wierd noises. When the game starts, the men symbols don't look right, and there are no sprites!

I think as I’m not on the pc right now
That there are corresponding settings files for each game
Look for dk ini file and delete it
Then retry loading it should right a new
Could be a gui file also
That’s why it hasn’t gone away although you put new rom
Settings that may be corrupted remain

Turns out, the easiest and quickest way to sort this was to pull the SSD from my MAME PC, plug it into the desktop with a USB adaptor and browse. I deleted the dkong .cfg file (and the hiscore file for good measure) and... It's all working again. Phew!

Great stuff RM.

And now, like true arcade fanatics from days of yore, we're obliged to spend the sunniest day of the year in a darkened room shooting aliens!
