Not much since it seems to be a dead link :)

Re: [ukvac] mame to jamma Idea....
It's neat, but hardly new - or difficult for that matter.

My boss knocked all of this up in one evening, and in another evening, an
operating system that would boot straight into his own front-end that
allowed selection of mame games and sega genesis games all from the joystick
(page up/down by letter via buttons). Once the game exits via a button
combination (down know the exact combo), the system goes striaght back to
the menu.

Cost? - zero!

I'm putting my version together at the moment - may be slightly distracted
by my Bubble Bobble board turning up this morning mind you ;o)

Guddler.

hmmm does not look bad, but you could always build your own!
If you want more flexability and use a proven working solution (there
are a few on the list with these boards) check out the controls at
http://www.spaceinvaders.uk.com/

I use an IPAC board on my "Jamma PC" and it works a treat

Re: [ukvac] mame to jamma Idea....
If price would be around £25/30 it would save some hastle soldering etc...
I agree like you said its been done, But its simple plug in and go design
(Plug and Play) does make it apealing esp. to newbies not used to a
soldering iron.

And Very tidy too. Printed PCB design.

Ps: Gerard. The links fine i have used it... try again.

Re: [ukvac] mame to jamma Idea....
I don't believe it would cost nothing..

Seriously if you want todo the job properly you would need a keyboard
encoder, and a sound amp.. plus wires and off course a jamma finger board..
And also you'd be suprised how many people have troubles wiring up a VGA to
Arcade monitor.. normally sync related problems.

This is just my view.. ;), I've been on the MAME cab scene since '98.. so
I've got quite a few e-mails from newbies, most from BOYAC.

Regards

Andy Geez.

PS Why would your boss need any other frontend?? ArcadeOS does the job a
treat.

just rip an old keyboard to bits (I used an IBM PS/2 keyboard), there 2 a
penny now, if anyone needs any, I have hundreds (literally :).....

A build your own solution would prove more expensive.

I think an addition to the unit allowing the monitor lead only to output
when a 15hz signal is output would make a nice ad on what you lot think?

Plenty of people have tried that route, not too bad if you only
wany simple controls such as 1 player with a couple of fire
buttons. Try doing a 2 player 6 button layout and you will find
you start suffering from "ghosting", where the keyboard starts
to produce the wrong charchaters or worse still miss inputs
all together

I did two upright 2 player cabs, both with 3 fire buttons, etc. no probs
yet, haven't tried 6button though....

Hehe - tell me about it - my mame rig just wont sync to the
Hantarex sitting in my jamma cab - worked fine with my old 9000,
but when that died i replaced it with a 900e and now can only get it
to work properly on my test rig. Saying that though - i doubt this
thing would solve that - doesnt seem to be anything special - i'd
stick with an IPAC and wire up the rest yourself due to the added
flexibility of the IPAC.

Okay, slight exageration here it WOULD cost something, but a quick trip to
the cupboard in the computer room reveals a PILE of old ps/2 keyboards with
broken keys of some form or another for a jamma to keyboard hack.

Then, he cut straight into his loom (ouch!) i have a fingerboard left (last
one!)

Another trip to the computer room reveals knackered monitors with donor VGA
cables, and finally, don't know what he did for a sound amp, but trust me
there is plenty of sound coming out of his cab - i heard it with my own ears
;o) All driven from a standard Dell Lattitude running advancemame.

> PS Why would your boss need any other frontend?? ArcadeOS does the job a
'Cause we work for a software company and we're sad enough to prefer to
knock these things up in our spare time just for the hell of it ;o)

Seriously though, i was quite impressed with what he did - aside from
hacking his loom to do it, something i will definately not be doing as i
still primarily want to use my PCBs.

Cheers,
Guddler.
PS: Admittedly this is not for newbies!! - most on the list seem to be happy
enough with a soldering iron in their hands though - don't they?

Again, not so straightforward, but sussed - plenty of info on it on the net
(so i'm told!).

Does it handle the video amplification needed to drive a Monitor in a cab,
if it dont constant adjustment of the monitor will be needed when swapping
between PC and PCB's and visa versa..

Re: [ukvac] mame to jamma Idea....
Thats a good point.. Anybody know the actual voltage difference??

If this unit can do proper composite sync via the XOR gate (instead of the
normal twisting of the vsync and hsync) and correct video voltage then it
could be good. Adam take note! ;)

You noticed that you have to still change the monitor adjustments on certain
PCBs.

Won't a series diode on each switch prevent the crosstalk across the
scanning matrix?
