Hello guys and gals!

Just to let you know in the interests of our members this part of the forum will require you to login to be able to view it from tomorrow.

Nothing else is changing in regards to post counts to view it or creating or replying to threads.

And one more thing! Would you like the Trading Post sections closed? So the items you have up for sale and the pictures aren't anonymously able to be viewed?

Let me know people!

ps. I am absolutely KNACKERED!

Nice one, i'd have the whole forum closed if it was up to me! If you aren't a member then register.....or do one.

My 2P - I think Trading should remain visible to non logged-in users.

I've heard it said in the past that some people prefer to sell their spare gear within the community and I can appreciate this. I price my forum sales below what I'd advertise on eBay for this reason.

But this forum is setup so that members can't PM until they've made a handful of posts, so if someone does find a FS via Google, they can't register, PM the member and disappear. They have to join and post a little before they can trade. I've never seen any spamming done to get around this.

If someone with a day-old account PMs you regarding a trade, you don't have to sell to them, same as you don't have to sell to anyone else. So I'm not seeing in-community trades evaporating to fly-by-night 'members'.

On the flip side, advertising goods for sale means you want rid of them probably to buy the next thing you have your eye on

. You no longer want what you're advertising, so what does it matter who it goes to? You still get your money whether it sells to a five-year member, or a five-week member. And you can always choose who buys it!

But if people can find your trades via Google, you have a larger audience and that's got to make it easier to sell, or perhaps raise more funds from the sale.

I don't see any drawback from non-members viewing sale goods, but I see harder, slower sales by blocking non-members.

Nice idea regarding the members' machines section.

I don't think I've posted any pics in there yet, but now I know it's going to be 'private' I'll be sure to get some pics of me naked draped across my cabs in a alluring fashion, confident in the knowledge that only you guys will be seeing my lardy arse.

I agree with trm about the Trading section, though.

whilst it can restrict your buying audience,it's better to sell to someone in the know rather than a muppet, who will plug your £200 pcb in the wrong way round, then claim it dosen't work

What Tim said.

A US KLOV member just joined up today because he saw my Fluke Sale thread (probably in google results), this would not have otherwise happened.

Steve, there is no barrier to membership here so there is no way of telling whether a member is more or less likely to kill something than someone who isn't yet a member. Stephen Hawking could be the non-member trying to buy the game and Forrest Gump the member

. But it's a complete gamble to assume one or the other.

Something like that is best addressed by shooting a proof of life video before sale, then claiming through the courier after presenting the evidence to the buyer.

This change has been made, Members Machines sections in Arcade, Pinball and Virtuality are now locked down.

Thanks!
