Metcal SP200 buzz

Just wanted to check with you guys whether this is normal or not.

I bought a second hand Metcal SP200.

On applying power to the unit there is a buzzing noise, even though the switch on the top is not switched on and there is no heat to the iron.

I have powered the unit up and the green light comes on and have soldered with it, so seems to be working ok.

Does anyone else get this?

I would hazard a guess and say the buzzing is from a wire wound transformer, probably nothing. Is it a loud buzz?

Not really loud as such but noticable

Mine has always done it. Therefore I believe you can safely ignore it. I was concerned too when I got mine but it has never caused an issue and I've probably had it 10 years now. I just switch it off at the wall all the time which I don't really consider a bad thing as it helps to ensure I don't forget and leave it switched on.

Would be nice if there's a cure though of course

As I have said, it seems to work ok, so as long as that continues I'm happy!
