Hey,

I have a Dell Inspiron 15 laptop (which is only a few years old) and the majority of the keys on the middle row of the keyboard do not work, The Caps key works fine, A S D F do not work, G H work fine and J K L do not work. On the next row, Z X C V need to be pressed more firmly for them to work.

Any idea of the cause and how to fix this?

I have checked for updates, uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers and have carried out a factory reset of the laptop but that still hasn't fixed the issue. Its not water damage or ingress of any kind.

Thanks

Either has some liquid damage on the connector / Keyboard or the keyboard has become faulty. I have replaced jazillions in the past !

I'm sure there is no liquid damage (especially as this supposedly has a 'spill resistant keyboard'. If the keyboard is faulty, are they easy to repair/replace?

Trust me I have had so so so many people say no liquid damage and when you open it its clearly there. It is so easy for a tiny bit to seep in without you noticing. Either way the keyboards are easy to replace , Dell were always one of the easier one but its been a while since I did them ( Over 10 years now ! ).

Need an exact model but a few here :- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/31458594...hFOBcVjtBiI4xSxydbt6u2qYY=|tkp:BlBMUOLQgKmhZg

I have the Dell Inspiron 15 3535. I've just gone onto the Dell website and it looks like I have to take all the components out to replace it lol.

This might be beyond my ability....

I just did another google search and came across this website, about half way down the page I tried what someone recommended and it seemed to work!! I don't think it is going to be a permanent fix but hopefully I can use it for the next few weeks for work before I take it to be repaired.

Thanks for your help, I think there was something spilt on there, my kids have gone all quiet since I've asked them about it.

I was going to say if you have wife and kids it's quite possible to happen without you knowing

Got a Panasonic 3D TV I bought non working quite a few years back, get nothing on screen, searching issue and one guy said it's common for liquid be spilt and it goes onto pcb at bottom of LCD panel, I thought It can't be that, took the back off and had a look, sure enough some marks on inside near speakers and smelt of dog or cat piss :ROFLMAO: bit annoying I thought

Just a little update for those that helped and offered advice.

I finally got around to looking at the laptop over the weekend. I wasn't sure which replacement keyboard I would need so I took it apart with the hope that it may have a part number also to see the difficulty of replacement, the instructions on the Dell website made it look more difficult than what it was.

Anyway, I took it apart and there was no visible water damage etc and unfortunately there was no part number on the keyboard. I put it back together and switched it on to make sure it powered up and the keyboard worked!

Upon inspection, the cable attaching the keyboard to the motherboard is below the middle row keys (specifically the ASD keys) and knowing that my son played games on the laptop, I wouldn't be surprised if he 'raged quit' and whacked the keyboard.

So I now have a fully working laptop which will not be given back to my son!
