There's two versions of Missile Command II.

There's the '82 version and the later '89 version. I have the later version as an upright prototype fully working. One day i'll bring it to a show.. maybe.Alpha12015-05-06 14:29:11

It made it as far as a field test. They tried it in two formats - a cocktail version housed in Atari Football, and an upright similar to Atari Basketball, using a mirror. Didn't think it was built on System 1 hardware. I have a pic somewhere of the MC2 PCB, looks a lot like an MC PCB.

I played the later version (Atari Classics) way back in the day. That was a proto. Appeared in a pub in Sheffield. Field test?

Wonder if it is the one I have? This one came from P-man, which he got from a storage depot in Luton.

Atari asked for ti back from the arcade that had it after the game didn't go into production. It missed its flight however and Atari forgot about it - which is great as it was being shipped back for destruction.

It stayed in the storage warehouse just outside of Luton airport for nearly 10 years before Andy found out about it and saved it.

Probable.

It's weird. I never realised until fairly recently that back in '02 I'd stumbled across a proto. I always assumed the cab had a wide release as I'd played it myself.

Also there was one in the The Bull pub in Poulton-le-Fylde (Blackpool) in the mid 90's, so must of been a few knocking around unless it was the same cab on tour.

Yeah there's a bit of confusion around this subject as Alpha says.

There's the original MC2 game that turned up recently as a prototype that Fuzzy linked to above. This is a two player game made in 82 or thereabouts. I believe it was abandoned as a project during development.

Then there's the MC2 that was done in the late 80s, which is basically a hideous graphical update of the original Missile Command game. I think its a multi cab with an update of Centipede? I've definitely played it, but couldn't tell you when or where.

Presumably you've seen this:

http://atarigames.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=231:missile-command-ii-game-proposal&catid=6:game-proposals&Itemid=5

At the bottom it mentions the hardware, but who knows if the design changed or not.

Cool to see stuff like that, is that the later one that was released or the older one though

Marble Madness is 1984 and that was saying 1982, on System 1 hardware. It may just be wrong but would be interesting to know if the System 1 goes back earlier
