What on earth has this got to do with Andrew? I was mortified when I saw the post with Andrew's name on...I've met him on numerous occasions and he's a really genuine bloke. He was unintentionally the target of some misdirected abuse and now wants that abuse edited. D has apologised, End of story.
On the other hand, in the first instance YOU made your issue with Oll public via the list, perhaps with the intention of publicly shaming him into action? Maybe not a particularly good idea on reflection? Arguments/issues are always best dealt with offlist (even if it can make good reading!).
Many people on this list will have good/bad trader stories depending upon their experience of particular deals...it's happened to me in both ways over the years. Sometimes it's beyond your control! You just have to treat each instace on it's own merits and try and give people the benefit of the doubt, except in perhaps a few notable instances where people have a particularly (and widely-known) bad reputation!
Jeez, I've been a member of this list since early 1999 and I've seen numerous flame wars (hehe, even started a few myself) but goddammit, this is getting more than a little tiresome now. YES, UKVAC can be a more acerbic place than jammaplus and YES, there are members who can come up with some sharp one-liners (especially in the face of noob-type questions), but hey, that's life! I received the sh*tty end of the stick a few times when I first joined...most people do! Looking back through your posts (Jan 2006), we've been in this situation before (the MS-DOS saga).
Personally, I think life's too short for all this bitching. If you have an issue with a list member, it's good practice to take it offlist.
Can we PLEASE now call it a day?
