The eBay Description...
This machine was originally won by myself approximately 20 years ago and was originally kept in my bedroom, very cool for when my mates came over, since then it has been kept covered in storage for the last 10 years. It's overall condition is good for something that is nearly 30 years old.
I had previously listed this last week but due to a lot of questions of which I couldn't answer at the time and requests for specific photos etc, I decided to remove it until I had all the answers. The cabinets location is in Leicester and I'm now living in Rugby so I couldn't easily obtain everything whilst the listing was still active. It also dawned on me that the cabinet hadn't actually been powered up for a very long time so I couldn't really give a proper description.
Until now.....
I carefully prepared the machine today (04/02/2012) for a power on and i'm pleased to say it powered on straight away without any issues. The monitor warmed up properly, the fan came on and worked as it should. I performed the software and hardware self test and it reports NO ERRORS. The hardware is 100% original in every way and it has the original Amplifone monitor.
I pressed the credit button and received "the force will be with you", I pressed it again, it says "always". Oh the memories that came flooding back after that.
As far as the game is concerned it plays as it should, the controls work as do all triggers. The speakers work and the sound is good, all sound bytes crisp and clear.
Ok, lookswise its in good condition for a 29 year old piece of arcade history. The side artworks are still the original painted ones and not reproduction stuck on vinyls, the colours are still vibrant and only bear the expected minor scrapes and scuffs of an arcade life. The top Atari logo is still crisp, the screen is unmarked and the plastic xwing mold around the screen is in good condition. Now it does have a bit of front damage, the front vinyl next to the controls have degraded a bit but not enough for the urgency of a refurb and the top plinth under the Atari Star wars logo has a minor paint split. Overall I would easily give it 85%-90% for condition.
There is one issue at the moment with the machine and that is the monitors scale needs to be re-tuned. At the moment it looks like its too zoomed in on the image, i.e. you can't see the shield graphics at the top and the tip of your xwings wings as you should be able to. To solve this its an adjustment to the X and Y pots on the game board. Unfortunately I had to come back to Rugby before I got the information about that which was forwarded to me by a very helpful person in the know, so it's still in that state.
Thats it, there are no other issues and with the monitor tuned in properly its as near perfect.
Other things you should know, it has the original large size old .10p coin slots on the front, that should be lockable but unfortunately over time i've misplaced the keys, no real problem as you'd just open it up to press the credit button anyway. Also the back of the cabinet cannot be put back on as I left it off for storage purposes but the keylock is in the lock position and without the keys cant be put back on.
By far the worst thing is that my very impressive highscore still stands proudly at the top of the table and you would have to be a Jedi Master to beat it. It was that score that won me the machine in the first place.
