Musée Mécanique

Not sure if that's my cup of tea or not. There's a similar place but on a much smaller scale in North Devon - Watersmeet Castle. Made for a good day out.
We're looking to go on holiday somewhere later in the year and the Mrs would love to go to the states, BUT, that money sink called the house is beckoning again. Need the outside of the house decorating and the conservatory needs completely re-doing as it's rotten as fook. So I can see a decent holiday not happening again this year!
After that though, aside from the unexpected, there's nothing left that the money sink can throw at us - least I don't think so!

I went to Musee Mechanique in July/August last year and had a good old chat with the bloke that runs it. He scoots round the place on roller skates dealing with coin jams and faults/fixes. He's a collector who does it for the fun, but has a location that people would kill for in SF.
Yes its name suggests its just full of old coinop stuff, but in actual fact its pretty much 50/50 old stuff and old videogames. They have a great selection of classic games there, and better yet, everything is just 25cents to play, just like the old days!

well worth a visit, and its right in the heart of fishermans wharf, one of the busiest areas in SF. Also, in walking distance is an Outer Limits arcade on pier 39 IIRR, i didn't go to it last year to see, but in 2006 i was there and it had a lot of classics in it.. I'm going back to SF tomorrow, i might see if outer limits is any good still.. or not.. its just a comemrcial arcade with a few classics.. musee mechanique is where you want to go really.
You can't miss it, its right by the docked submarine.

I still prefer Santa Cruz boardwalk for classics, but this is a very funky place to visit and in a great area if you wanna do Alcatraz, ride the trams etc.retroshaun said:

ah well, didn't get to the Musee mechanique again, but i can report that the arcade on Santa Monica Pier in L.A sucks balls, someone once said it had a good classic lineup. It actually has the most beat-to-sh*t cabinets i've ever seen in there, with a pac, mspac, galaga, centipede in the way of classics and a bunch of other junk, nothing different from most arcades, although people were queueing up to play galaga!
