Ok, so I've been going through my PCB collection testing out boards ready for selling on, and came across a Galaga bootleg which has never worked in the 10+ years I've had it, just displayed garbage. I never spent much time trying to fix it, other than ensuring the chips were pressed in firmly along with the ribbon connectors (it has 2, it one of the large board type bootys, like this although the solder mask on mine is the usual green all over)
Well last night, as I had a Kung Fu Master PCB nearby, I decided to replace the ribbon connectors, and BAM it works fully without a hitch!
After playing quite a few games, and hitting over 100k, I stepped back and watched the attract mode, and that is when I noticed the ©1985 Namco at the bottom of the screen!
Anyone got any info on this? I know Gaplus is 1984 (I've got that PCB too, great game!) so why would this copy read '85?
