Sorry I had t even noticed a screw in there!

It wasn't so much the screw as the big standoff on the other side that wasn't letting go without a fight - which it got courtesy of three of us, all with brown-trousers-time looks on our faces thinking the whole corner was about to snap off.

What a beauty, please document the tube swap if you get a chance I'd love to see how that goes as. I've never seen it done on 31k or a tube this size.

Weeell, it's unlikely to see much 31kHz action. I mean it might. Depends what the chaps at AK manage to do with the MS2930 and MS2931 I gave them to fix. Both should work with the yoke but I'm not sure what happens to an auto-switch chassis under RGB-Pi. But yeah, I'm sure the pictures of the yoke swap'll be... special. 😬

Bought @jerryspaghetti's old MS9 and in it goes! (Though ofc it wasn't that simple.)

I'd noticed when trying out a yoke swap a while back that the image was basically pink, and wondered if it'd resurface or was just an issue with the tube, yoke or temporary chassis. Same thing happened again with the MS9 and I tracked it down to where the connections in the AMP-UP had been melted by the janky JAMMA-SCART adapter I tried once (avoid those from Jammastar at all costs). Given that the whole loom was literally smoking during that experience, I thought it best to build a new one from scratch.

In real danger of having a finished cab now.

I noticed while cleaning up the wiring that a perfectly sized hole in the underside of the cab was just asking for a button, so that's where the demag switch has gone.

Chassis will be going off to Grant in a few days for a recap. It's a nice picture but with some likely cap-related issues so I figured it was worth getting out of the way.

Almost there now.

I know the first (MS2932?) monitor went to monitor heaven, but what happened to the MS2931 tube and chassis you got serviced? All I can see is updates regarding the Panasonic TV and the the MS9 from Jerry.

Also what is the exact paint you used to repaint the bezel?

I've fitted a MS2930 chassis to a MS2932 tube without any major issues, there was some slight compression on the sides due to the slightly different curvature of the screen, but it's not at all noticeable in game.

The first monitor was a Sanwa 1745C paired with an old Astro city tube. Almost perfect picture on that but for a very noticeable bowing in the top centre which I'm guessing was either inherent in the tube/yoke combo or otherwise yoke-swap-related.

The MS2931 cost north of £300 from Yahoo Auctions Japan and was not only DOA but took out one of AK Amusements' tubes when they tried to fix it. And that wasn't even an 'untested' job; it was a special new breed of 'untested' known as a 'sold as seen' (without any pictures of it working lol).

But I so still have the minty fresh tube from a Panasonic consumer set that's a perfect fit for the cab, a Blast tube with some minor burn and a chip in the glass I don't fancy fixing, and an MS2930 repaired by AK. Once I get a replacement remote board and cable for the MS2930 I'm going to get the yoke off the Blast tube and see how things go with the Panasonic (I think Philips?) tube. That one had an electromagnetic yoke which isn't going to make life any easier, but on paper it'll work with a few magnets and convergence strips (and all of my time). Getting the MS9 in the meantime means I can happily take my time over the yoke swap and if it doesn't work, well, at least I have a working chassis to sell on.

I'll have to look up the paint. I forget every single time I need to use it again. It's definitely not Ford Arctic White because I tried that on the CP and it was a mismatch. IIRC had to mix up the exact shade by hand. Next time I'm near an auto shop I'll take one of the smaller plastic bits along and get a spectrometer on it.

I never realised you had so many issues getting a working monitor, I can understand your frustrations now.

I've got a PM1745 (Non C) chassis and tube in storage from an old Daytona 2 cab I sold on, unfortunately I lost the remote somewhere in the garage. When I got the cab the chassis had a crack in it. A mate repaired and serviced it for me but I've always been a bit scared to test it. The tube is still in storage tho, I'll have to see if it works with a MS9 chassis as that would solve a problem if it does. I'm sure I seen some wiring hacks when I took it out the cab.

Regarding the paint colour what you also used on the Blast City bezel, you mentioned it was an Alfa Romeo paint, black with metal flecks in it? I've got a bezel for a Blast City project that will need painting at some point. Appreciate any info on paint matches.

Good luck getting the MS2930 chassis paired with a new tube. I spent hours and hours messing getting the image I posted above using the MS2932 tube and the MS2930 chassis which I bought of someone on UKVac for a good price. After I was happy I stuck the chassis in the Blast City cab thinking it would resolve some curving on the bottom of the screen, but the colours were way off on the different tube and no matter what I did with magnets I just couldn't resolve it.

Maybe I'll have another go someday trying to resolve it, but for now I just expand the screen so it hides the curve and simply forget about it. Not an ideal solution but it works for me and the risk of killing the monitor is greatly reduced.
