Hi all, I have just finished my gamesroom and need to put a flooring covering in.
The concrete floor is very level and flat. My girlfriend says I should paint it but looking on the net you need to acid etch first and then apply a good quality 2 pack paint.
I was thinking carpet tiles stuck to a ply floor.

The area is 36sqm so a large area to cover.

Any input would be helpful as I need to finish it off in the next couple of weeks.

Cheers,

Steve

I helped my bro build a new workshop and he painted the newly poured concrete floor with garage floor paint. Not sure if it's latex-based but we've dropped a lot of nasty fluids, V8s and done burnouts on it and it still sweeps up to as-new condition.

Google garage floor paint and you'll find what we used.

friend of mine has done a couple of concrete floors on properties that he has renovated - the first one was a fairly new floor that he painted with a garage floor paint and he needed to use one that was both a paint and sealer else he said that there would be issues with the concrete dusting.

He didn't do the floor immediately after the concrete was put down as he said it needed to cure properly first.

The second one he did was a older floor (been down at least 15 years) and that one he put a laminate wood floor down as he was converting the space from a workshop to a living area - before the laminate was put in a moisture barrier sheet and underlay (a fibrous board of some type) were laid. Also he used a levelling compound on the concrete first to both seal and and make sure it was flat.

Both seem to have lasted OK, the painted floor was done around 10 years ago and the laminate one was around 3 years ago.

Where I used to work, a company came in and laid carpet tiles (black & grey - looked good) directly on the concrete floor - think the floor was just painted with a sealer first. Was OK, but if not wearing shoes you could tell you were walking on a hard floor.

Saw a picture today of an arcade somewhere that had a 'pacman' flooring done (can't find the link at the moment)

Edit: found it - http://imgur.com/a/Es6Oe - look to be done with those small mosaic tiles (is posting the link OK?)

Whilst floor paints are really good now, and don't peel (as long as there's no dust when you apply it), surely it's still going to be a bit chilly for arcades and the surface will scratch off from the cab feet?

I ended up going for a floating floor, with 25mm insulation (cheap polystyrene is fine depending on whether you have insulation under the concrete), and then chipboard on top, followed by carpet tiles. That may be a bit OTT (and it's considerably more expensive), but it all depends on how well insulated the place is and temperature you want to keep the space at. I've seen people use 75mm celotex under their floating floor before.

That's precisely what I did. Had a heavy gauge polythene on the concrete floor. Built a timber frame on it, and insulated with 75mm Celotex. Then tongue and groove chipboard on top, followed by some heavy duty PVC tiles

Ben & Andy's plan sound the best. We had limiting parameters for a floor that'd take a couple of yank cars and an engine crane or two so we couldn't make a proper false floor.

And you can do burnouts from the garage when it's straight 4" concrete :)

The floor has been insulated with 100mm celotex then a 6" screed on top.
I painted my double garage with floor paint and it didn't last long before peeling.
The gamesroom was concreted 6 months ago so should be fully dry by now. The room has been plasterboarded and plaster skimmed 4 weeks ago.
I might try the floor paint first so long as I don't need to acid etch it first. Failing that it may be carpet tiles on chip board.
