Hi all,
picked up my first driving cab not long ago, half of a Daytona USA twin (wooden sided version). Just started on a full restoration, hoping to return it to stock as much as possible. I have the original seat, not pictured (although missing the seat back panel) and am slowly sourcing the parts I need to complete the cab. I have been documenting the process with hundreds of pictures, mostly so I remember how to reassemble it as it's a full nut and bolt restoration. Will showcase the process when I can.

Also in the process of insulating and converting the garage to create a home arcade to house this and a few other standup machines including a digital pinball machine. Two reasons, one because it will be a great escape back to the 80s and 90s to have my childhood arcade back and two because the wife would quite like the stuff out of our house :) This is my first venture into real arcade cabs, I mostly do retro console mods and refubs although I did recently pick up a cps2 Street fighter 2 CE board which I converted to Turbo by burning a few rom chips. If anyone needs any ROMs burning let me know as I have a rom burner that's not getting much use. I also like the Neo Geo AES/MVS stuff which growing up was like the unobtainable unicorn, as well as little PCB design and production. This is new for me and I'm massively amateur at this but have just built a few controller adapters and scart to VGA adapter to use with a down scaler that I'm building. Non of my original design but I'm good at following instructions and there is a vast wealth of knowledge out there. Hope I can contribute to this forum, gain some knowledge and help out where I can.IMG_20230306_165816.jpg

Welcome to the forum/hobby.

Your journey so far, exactly mirrors that of my own.

My first cab was a sit down Sega driver, I knew nothing (some would argue this is still the case 🤣), and I converted my garage into a games room to keep the cabs out of the house...

Oh and I also documented all of this and more on my blog, link below, hopefully some of the stuff on there might help you along.

Good luck.

Thanks for the welcome. Couldn't see the link to your blog in your message but interested to take a look.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum.
You can't go wrong with a Daytona - although the Daytona may go wrong on you a few times
I'm rebuilding a plastic sided twin at the moment that's more rust than metal, but it'll be great when it's done. Eventually.

I'd be interested to know the difference between the wooden one that I have and the plastic sided ones. When I've been looking for the service manuals online I've only ever seen manuals for the plastic sided twin. I've just refurbished the gear shifter and noticed that mine is a slightly different design than the schematic shown in the plastic sided twin manual. After the refurb and replacing the rubber parts I was amazed at how solid and positive the gear changes were again. 😁
