Greetings. I was less than pleased to hear of the sad news around Christmas. I had one of Archers games about 12 years ago, Star Rider in fact. It was a relatively nice and untouched import that after a lot of thought I managed to get working. I also remember receiving some interesting pictures of a garage containing a lot of games and cars with a well known italian sports car and a 'mini' mini (he knew I liked the 'real' mini car) not to mention some interesting stories about speedometer recalibration during one of the Honiton meets. He sold a lot of stuff on here through another member around that time and I think he sold a lot of it to the 'euro' guys as I saw some pictures of them getting him to autograph their cabs which of course many of us though was very funny since I don't recall him writing Atari Star Wars or Space Wars for that matter but what a nice gesture, he looked somewhat embarrassed in the pix IIRC :)

Way back when and during a time when the internet was not widely used by the general public (and frankly was better off as a result) I remember he used to post directly on here, or at least the mailing list under his own name, then 'Arch' and later simply 'A' but these days you'd get a load of fanbois hassling you if you tried that as a minor/niche celebrity :-|

In my small collection of side art I have a hitherto unfitted Packrat control panel overlay that he produced well before such things became readily available and it's distinguished by the fact that it says 'Rev AM' on it.... I really ought to fit it one day.

Anyway, I suppose to help with your question I'd guess Pac Man and Asteroids are the most widely known and therefore valued by the public at large (I think I've seen untested Asteroids go from 400-1000 or so but it's a guess) followed by Missile Command/Robotron and that tasty battlezone lurking on the edge of the image. Tank II I was suspect has only niche value and only to a dedicated collector. However if one were disinclined towards modesty/privacy I would suspect the association with your brother would make some adjustments to perceived value.

All the best -K

To echo what’s been said above…

Welcome and genuinely sorry to hear about Archer recently.
I’ve put a lot of time into IK+ and Jimmy White’s over the years, so in a small way he’s a fond part of my youth.

This is definitely the very best place for help identifying, pricing, and moving on this stuff.

99.99% will want to help for help’s sake and will be genuine, but please try to put stick to open thread valuations before you accept private offers (unless you’ve settled with someone you know you you trust!) just to avoid someone trying to take advantage.

Good luck, and again sorry for your loss.

Sorry for you loss and I imagine on top of the grief this will be overwhelming. Echo what others have said.
It may be a mare with the boards as people will want to know if real/bootleg etc. Not sure where you are based but perhaps a couple of local folk who are long term members could try and help even if it's to take pictures to post on evaluation. Just to relieve some of the pressure, sure you have enough to cope with.
I would hope no-one would rip of someone in this sad situation. I would be useless at pricing boards myself but you may be way of that at moment. I think you genuinely need a kind couple of folk to help you out. I will have the same situation when the FIL goes has so much car stuff, retro cars , parts , tyres and will have no idea at all , as just not my thing ! Take care,

Hi Karlcdoe,

That's rubbish news about your brother.

However arcading will continue and I see you may have a Battlezone machine available. I'm after one, in any condition. So when you come to sell it, please include me and that way you should achieve the best price.

Regards, Robert.

Welcome Hal

Similar to many others here I was gutted to hear the news - I hope things are going as well as they can be for you (y)

Archer inspired multiple generations of game developers and fans alike in the day job but even after mostly exiting the arcade hobby years ago his restoration legacy will be felt for decades onwards! Sadly I joined the hobby a little to late to meet him in person.

Regardless any help you need, just shout :)

Hi - thanks for the add... I'm in a slightly unusual position of being the executor of my brother's estate and he was heavily in to arcade games restoration and keeping them alive and useful - indeed, some of you here may well have known him. So it falls to me to sell up some of the ones that are working, but before I go full steam into that, I need some help arriving at a sensible market price and am hoping I can rely on your collective good nature to do so!
I cannot really comment on the overall condition other than to say 'working' or 'not working'... or 'seems complete' or 'may need some work'. We are revealing cabinets and side art, parts and circuit boards all the time as we work through the storage areas my brother set up, so unless someone says 'I'll take it all...' then bits and pieces may dribble onto the forums over time - apologies for the dribbling... :)

The first two to consider:

Asteroids - fully restored and working upright cabinet
Missile Command - Fully restored and working, and also in an upright cabinet
I'll get some videos of the game play so that you can see it all, but have attached a pic or two to show you what we see. Not all of these are tested and I don't know if they work yet, but these ones look mostly complete - although definitely need a bit of pledge around the edges.. They are buried behind boxes and other bits, but are generally in good condition as far as we can see - no huge lumps missing, artwork looking good, all lights buzzers, buttons and so on are in good shape. For argument's sake let's say 'good condition or better', but these are not what I'd call 'Mint'.

Sorry for the long intro - hoping I've not overstated my welcome (!) and look forward to hearing from folks!
Sorry for your loss

Hi,
To keep it short, I'd be interested in the Battlezone that the Pacman picture gives a hint of. It's always better to have a least two people interested, so you're more likely to ensure a correct price.
Regards, Robert.
