Forgot to mention, i have my new coin door to fit as well! :) I have a new metal door and bezel, but haven't ordered the new bolts and hardware to use on it yet. I really like the coin plates Chuckie_egg has on his games (especially the sheriff one) so would love something like that. Not sure if anything exists for space firebird??

Also i checked over the old door internals and found the coin meter. The count was at 48438 ! Quite a hard life!

Hi Guys,
(deepest apologies to myPinballs to hack your topic in such a "cavalier" way)

I am a regular reader of posts on Ukvac but only recently registered, mainly because of this topic.

I have recently bought what I assume may be the other known Space Firebird Upright in Europe from a fellow DLF collector SuperUlly and thanks to his previous work on this cab, most of the sourcing of parts was done (thanks also to Etienne the vector king for my replacement marquee). I am especially lucky to have the SF upright PCB (any way to recognize if this is a Nintendo or Sega/Gremlin? Mine has Test Points... as described in the SG manual).

I am now building/trying to source a proper harness and have to admit I could use some advice here.

As stated by Paulswan the manuals from the Nintendo Cocktail and the Sega/Gremlin Upright that are readily available on the web have different wiring schematics.

Personally I am at a loss to know what to do with the 10 pin VIDEO board power connector where pins 4,5,6 & 7 are to get +12V for Nintendo and not be wired on the Sega schematic. Same for pin 10 with -5V.

As you see, I could use some expertise....

And if someone has a nice looking SF wiring harness, a spare SF board (just in case I fry mine while playing with it) and (let's dream) the uber rare original Nintendo marquee, he may have a buyer...

Sorry for the bad quality of the pics, but the cab is in my storage room South of France , far from my place (I live close to Paris) and I only had my old phone...

Hey great to see another of these angular Nintendo cabs welcome Franzy!

I've got (Nintendo version) Space Firebird and Radar Scope upright manuals that I could scan if you are still in need Jim

Hi Richard, Yes please a full scan of both would be great :)

Ok, bear with me, I'll try and get it done as soon as I can :)

Richard, that'd be really cool. So that I am sure the custom harness I'll build will be OK.

Any updates Jim ?

I just did some new work on the cabinet today, the first time in ages, due to being so busy with work. Finally got a spare hour and fitted the white t-molding to the cab. Well chuffed with the result.

The next thing on the list is to fix my sound boards missing sounds, but not had a chance to get into this yet. After that i need to source some new dk control panel stuff, then i'm going to start the space firebird pcb and parts search and also the dk jr parts search. I want to be able to play all 3 of these in my cab eventually, with a minimum of swapping

WOW!!!

Truly impressive.

You are really good at that kind of job!!!

And funnily your idea about having several games in your cab exactly resonates with what I had in mind.

I have a DK 4 PCB somewhere and I was playing with the idea of putting it inside... and changing from one game to the other by just changing the CP and plugging/unplugging the video and the power cables.

Someone talented enough might even be able to wire something up with just a switch for swapping from games (of course the joystick would need to be 4 ways and it may be a little weird with Space Firebird...but it should be doable, no?)

I will most likely build some sort of adapter/interface for switching between board sets later, but for now i'm working to get my dk sound board fixed and finishing the cabinet.

Ok, so I don't have a scanner so I am photographing the pages, I can't seem to combine them into a PDF so they are individual images at the moment, I should have both uploaded by tonight

Sorry for the delay, took longer than expected, I figured out how to turn them into pdf's, however they are quite large at about 75mb and 93mb. The words are a bit faded on some pages but you can zoom right in, It should all be legible. I tried to keep it pretty high res

Here are the links:

Cheers Richard.

Interesting to see the wiring diagram now, as its very similar to the TKG3-06 4 stack boards i have for the wiring. The cpu board (power in and control panel connectors) are the same pinout. The power in for the video board is different though as the TKG03-06 has the power going ingot he clk board first.

Looks though that there's less wiring changes needed to run 2 board sets than i thought, and that's before i look into building some auto switcher.

I need some assistance though from Chuckie_egg, or other Nintento collectors, as i'm still trying to work out how the bottom 2 bolts on the coin door frame can come out as the internal wood cash tray surround is blocking access to the nuts on the back. I had to cut the bolts to get my old door off.

When I got mine the door was in a separate cardboard box. I barely managed to screw one of the two bolts back and the other one, I just put the bolt in the hole and left it like that. I considered gluing it just to make sure it would not fall but apparently the hole is so tight that the bolt won't budge. Not perfect but OK as far as I am concerned..

I'd be interested to get your schematics or even better if you could make a second one, you have a client.

This is so awesome, just read the entire thread top to bottom, inspiring stuff. The T-Moulding really did set it off!

I love the shape of the cab. Reading as you turned this old cab on and got an inverted picture, cool! Its a bit like opening an old chest to see if there is any good stuff in it! Brilliant, you've done an incredible job.

Thanks for taking the time to share all the pics, great read...

PS That T-Moulding from the US takes its time doesn't it! :)

Update: set aside some time this weekend for TKG3-06 Sound board diagnosis and learning! So far have learnt quite a bit about the pcb design and which parts create which sounds, including how all the analogue sounds are created, what they are specifically and which are the sounds generated by the onboard cpu and dac. Long day yesterday.

I know all my sounds work perfectly now, except the spin and die sounds. I managed to get these to work for 1 boot up early on, whilst diagnosing the analogue sections, but haven't figured out why they are absent again yet.

Fitted new roms and will be doing a cap upgrade to. This morning i'm going to look at the above some more and also why i have an odd background noise.

Am thinking that i may create a section on my website for tech info on these boards as i progress. The more info about for people the better so its all preserved for the future :) There is info about on the later DK jr boards and 2 board DK one, but less on these 4 stack versions. I know now to that the sound board design for the 4 stack was the almost the same on radarscope and possibly hellfire, but different on space firebird
