Hi all,
Partway through a game on my Getaway pin the flippers stopped working
smiley19.gif
Any help
smiley1.gif

I've put a help thread up on pinballinfo but thought I'd ask here too

C+P from over there including replies to get this thread up to speed

Hi all,
I was having a go on my Getaway pin when it made a strange noise from
the speakers (well think it did?) and then a few seconds later the
flippers have stopped working
Cry.gif

So far I've turned it off and on again! No fix!
Checked the fuses - all ok.
Checked the test - It said the shifter wasn't working so I started a
game and it worked and that problem no longer appears on the test.

I'm now stuck.

Any help much appreciated

Oh equipment I have available are soldering iron, multi meter and logic probe and lots of screwdrivers, etc

Thanks in advance

- Ben
then replies....
Have you properly tested the fuses ? You can't always tell just be looking at them.

Do flippers work in test mode ?

Voltage present at flippers ?
I'll test as much as possible and report back
Cheers mate

- Ben
Ok I've checked all the fuses I can see in the back box and they all
check out with my multimeter, In the test mode pressing the flipper
buttons does nothing, however if I move the flipper by hand it
recognises it.
Any ideas on the next port of call?

Thanks in advance

You say you checked the fuses, Did you check them by removing on end of
the fuse from the holder ? If not and you checked the fuse in the
holder then this can give a false reading. Take the fuse out or at least
one end out of the holder to get a true reading.
Also have you checked to see if you are getting any voltage at the flipper coil ?
Hi,
I've checked the fuses with one end out and all check ok.

For the voltage at the flipper coil.... I've checked here.... (right
flipper) For some reason it only shows the bit I've circled if you click
through?

wasn't sure which pins to use so I tested them all. They do seem to be
getting some power when I connect one end to a ground around 8v iirc
(forgot to write it down

I've had a quick look (not got the best light available with where I
have to move the pin to to get into it! There aren't any spade
connectors the wires are soldered directly on with about 3 tonnes of
solder! I'm not sure if one of the wires is running from one of the
connectors after where its soldered. I need better light for that as it
looks quite thin on the other ones. I did notice on the same one that 2
of the wires looked like they were touching, so I seperated them and no
change
frown.png
Is it likely that if 2 of the wires were touching (for some strange reason? vibration?) then that one is fubar'd?
Thanks again for all the help guys

Ben you still got this issue?
Yep
smiley19.gif

I've been getting some help over on j+
an update so far.......
The flippers buttons are getting power to them.
If I short out the transistors on the fliptronic board then the flipper fires.
now stuck again

do the flippers connect to a small pcb under the playfield and/or in the cab? like a small pcb on the side of the cabinet, trace the flipper wiring to find out where it goes prior to the fliptronics board.

If you short the flippers on that board on the fliptronics side, do they flip? Have you cleaned and repeated those connections?

I've not tried shorting the flippers there just on the fliptronics pcb. Connectors have been reseated. I'll go try shorting it there now

ok so that board is actually just the credit pcb

I traced the left flipper wire and it goes all the way back to the fliptronics tested continuity and all fine. If I put the switch test on then short the corresponding transistor for the flipper it recognises it so is the fliptronics buggered?

Sounds like a potential fliptronics issue. Transistors fine but whatever chip is responding to the buttons isn't working anymore.

buy a secondhand one for £40/50. New repro ones around the same price.

Fixing it should be trivial, are there schems for the board?

With this problem you could run some simple tests:

go into menu and test the flipper power and hold. If they work then it's a pure switch matrix issue.

On Getaway 2. The coin door switches (test, etc) go trough the CPU. The flipper button switches and end of stroke switches go directly to the fliptronics board. You do not need 'working' eos switches to flip.

As the machine recognizes the 2 flipper buttons are out of service you could have an issue with the following things:

- lost 12V on the switch matrix part on the fliptronics board or wiring (connector, etc..) --> you checked this so this isn't the case

- lost ground on the wiring --> did you check this?

- damaged parts (IC that controls the switch logic) on fliptronicsboard due to a short with for example the coil circuit

- I would also slightly press the ASIC on the CPU and reseat all ribbon cables between powerboard, CPU and fliptronics. Doesn't cost a thing and has solved some strange problems for me in the past.

Hi mate,
I've checked all connectors and they're fine. 12v is present and so is ground.
If I move the flipper manually then it registers. The fliptronic is away for repairs, so hopefully it will be confirmed faulty and fixed

Its the waiting game now
