ok, that kind of makes sense...so these CPs are for fat people?Hah! I agree, but I always assumed that when that happens it's down to player position around the cab? So both players can't fit snugly side-by-side, so they're viewing the screen at an angle?
But yes, I agree, that's annoying!
Joysticks should always be aligned with the screen for hand-eye coordination.

I'm pretty sure the two side joysticks that have been fitted 'sideways' for some reason, will be wired so that up/down are actually left/right, in alignment with the screen (if you see what I mean).But surely marge and lisa players will be standing sideways and player will be moving joystick towards the screen or away from it to go left/right on that simpsons, that would be well confusing, my Rampage is bad enough with slightly angled Joysticks

Glad I got Taito Space Invaders, never fancied the Buttons on Midway cab and I think I would have suffered playing it also by sounds of itYes it’s player angle comfort …. However when 2 player cabs and games came popular the left handed players were disadvantaged

I am just grateful that joysticks were fitted on Taito space invaders as the Midway space invader ‘left/right’ buttons used to give me terrible repetitive strain injury ….
With little choice of games in the late 70s we would play Midway invaders all night sometimes ( so addictive back then) , RSI used to spread from my knuckles to my elbow …… Then worse was when Pac-Man came out with 4 way joysticks my middle finger used to suffer blisters and a deep ridge indentation from trying to change direction in a panic ….
Nowadays with cab comfort and multiple console choice also maybe you don’t notice the pain us Guinea pigs went through when cabs first ‘invaded’ our home as well as the pubs and arcades where the time exposure was reduced to a safe level..
Screen diffusers were also a good addition when colour games were played close to out eyes…. We saw sprites in our dreams!!!

As a right-hander I always grabbed the joystick with my right hand on those 0/1/2 button games in the 80s. I'm pretty sure that used to be the norm. This is why some games like Wonderboy seem to have their buttons wired in reverse.so Gauntlet has Left handed![]()

It was only really multibutton games like Street Fighter that forced a switch, which makes sense as your button hand needed to do a lot more by then. Although lots of people used to play Streety cross-handed as special moves were a struggle with a left hand on the stick - especially for SF1.

Japan always seemed to favour left-handed sticks and as more simultaneous 2-player games with 3 button controls were coming out they had to decide on one way. Made sense for the common dominant hand to be on buttons by then.
